I have a mate who had this problem. He now plays for Wire but he comes from a Wigan supporting family (on one side the other side supports Wire anyway) and they now all go to watch him at Wire (or somewhere else on his Dual-reg) and I think thats worked out well. They're proud of him as are all his mates I also support him when he plays providing it isnt against us of course haha.

Jon Woods [of Leigh 'fame'] was Forbidden by his father from signing for Wigan. And I know of a few fathers like that from lads I grew up [In Leigh] with who would disown their kids should they sign for Wigan.

Believe it or not I had this problem earlier this year. Me and son both season tickets holders at Wigan - Saints and Wigan wanted him on scholarship. He plays his club rugby in St Helens and a few of his team mates play at Saints. We let him make his own choice.

He chose Saints - but e seems happy enough and thats the most important thing

I went to school with a lad who had a similar dilemma. There were a few clubs sniffing around him offering contracts but he'd decided that he would only ever play for Wigan. Unfortunately Wigan never came knocking and he never got picked up. Silly boy

For the players it's a job. It's their career, and they have to find work where they can.

Spot on. If I had 2 offers one from Wigan n 1 from Wire and the wire one was nearly double the Wigan one then I'd take the Wire offer. Its your career and you can only do it for so many years so you take whats best. And as for the lad from yick who chose Saints then you never know he can always end up at Wigan yet! Just coz hes at Saints now doesnt mean that if he makes it to the big time he will wanna stay there if Wigan come knocking

Disown him, throw him out, refuse him access to the house. The usual.

You can support Wigan but support your son aswell!
