| Give him ago.... Can't be any worst then now
Dennis Bett's didn't do much wrong, given the chance.
Coached the under 18's, then the Under21's, became assistant, then took over as coach.
Why couldn't Lam do it, I think he'd have great respect off the likes of Locker's, Hock, both Tomkins all the young lads who were there when he was.
He did quite well with the PNG team in the WC.

Betts didn't do too bad?
Bit of revisionism going on there.

| It's when I read threads like this that I realise we would be the Newcastle United of RL if left to some of our fans - i.e. everything will ok as long we have a club legend in charge.
We all know how well that policy has turned out for Newcastle.
We desperately need an experienced world class coach - that isn't Adrian Lam.

I wouldnt quite have said that either though. Obviously that'd be nice, wayne bennet or someone. But i think we should be looking to an up and coming coach, who's had experience of head coaching before [not lam then]. Justin Morgan would be my ideal candidate, but i'm not expecting him to leave Hull KR any time soon. Someone similar though would be ideal imho.

Yes great point ex player taking over Newcastle, they go down, possibly because the team is Sh!t??
Ex player and assistant, takes over at F.C Barcelona. O totally different story first Spanish manager to possibly do all three cups.
No top NRL coach would want to come to us. Would you? If you don't perform within the first month, you have the fans on your back and your looking a house back in Oz again

Justin Morgan has had an excellent half season. But is that enough to be able to get our rabble into shape? I have my doubts.

And precisely where do you think Wigan are in RL terms compared to Newcastle and Barcelona?
Hence my point.

if shearer stayed with newcastle next year they'd be straight back up. Just as if he'd been there all season they wouldn't have gone down.
You can just tell whether some players would be good coaches, shearer was a leader, so was pep guardiola. They both are/will be fantastic coaches.
Same as farrell would be for us, he's just got that presence about him where you know he would be a fantastic coach.

Wild guesswork is no basis for an argument.
Wigan's next coach needs to be someone with a proven track record of all-round coaching ability. It simply doesn't add up that because you were a good player and a good club-man, you'll be a good coach. We can't afford to take any more chances. We're already well settled at mid-table level. If we get cemented into that position, the crowd will finally tail off.
What frustrates me more than anything about this is that Wigan were the first British club to actually learn this lesson.
When we appointed Graham Lowe - a foreigner with no prevous connection to Wigan, who had barely played the game at a decent level - everyone laughed at us. Saints meanwhile had re-appointed Alex Murphy and were proclaiming it the 'return of the messiah'. But who had the last laugh?
Unfortunately, now it's teams like St Helens, Hull KR and Huddersfield who have signed RL intellectuals, while we are - or we would be if some fans had their way - looking at giving the job to popular ex-players who've done little or (in Farrell's case) nothing at all on the coaching paddock.

| We've had the 2 most successful coaches in the SL era, and we're still a poor side.
We need a top drawer Aussie to come in with fresh ideas. I don't agree with looking overseas, however there isn't anyone over here who I think can offer us more than Noble. I'm sure IL is looking at his options whilst in oz.

Someone who talks sense at last. Whilst people are moaning at Noble need to remember hes the most succesful coach in the SL era. Lam is not the answer. If we cant get a good NRL coach then i see nothing to gain from letting Noble leave.
Only person from these shores id have as a coach is Edwards. It would be a gamble but a better gamble than any of the other SL coaches. At least the defenc would be the best in SL. Hes worked wonders on the defences of Wasps and Wales.

He is excatly what we need - a young aussie coach wanting to prove himself and he also is aware of how things work at the club etc etc
Plus, imagine what he could do for someone like sam - he would improve him no end
Lammy pleasseeeee
The same Adrian Lam who was stood down as U20's coach part way through last season because they were bottom without a win?

| I'd have lam as an assistant but we're gonna need more than him.
I've beensaying for ages that I'd love to see Ricky Stuart. Pure class as a player, trained under Wayne Bennett. He's been involved in top class rugby and club level, state of origin and internationals both as a player and coach.
Please Mr Lennigan, bring Ricky Stuart to Wigan.

| A top aussie coach to hopefully have the same sort of effect that Nathan Brown has had at Huddersfield. Good discipline, better fitness, set moves and doing the basics well, Brian Smith or Ricky Stuart please
