| Quote: Ruddy Duck "The same Brian McDermott who was Coach of the Rhinos at the time they had a great squad, led by Kevin Sinfield, Jamie Jones Bucannan, Danny MaGuire, Kyle Leulai.
When most of that squad broke up, McDermott was exposed as not being as good a Coach as some supporters seemed to think he was!
Apart from being at Toronto Wolfpack when mainly in the Championship, no other Super League club show any interest in him as being their Coach.
And neither should Wigan!'"
Brian Mac is a proven coach. If you’re suggesting that Leeds team didn’t need coaching you’re delusional. A Leeds team that finished 5th - twice - and won the competition? A Leeds team that, let’s be absolutely realistic here, was gearing up for a generational change. Leeds should have stuck with Brian Mac. I guarantee they’d be far better off than they are.
Plenty of SL teams have shown interest. Salford, Wakey, Cas, Wire, Hull but to name a few but that won’t fit your exceptionally narrow narrative would it?

Don't feed the troll pal.
A guy who's won multiple trophies isn't good enough, but Peet also isn't the right guy because he's not got any experience.
You can't make it up.

Ludicrous isn’t it. I honestly despair sometimes at his posts. I’ll try harder not to feed it but it’s soooo hard sometimes!

| Many Coaches could have coached the great Leeds team of the time it was led by Kevin Sinfield.
When that squad broke up, all started to go downhill like Wigan has in the last couple of seasons or so since the departure of Sean Wane.
McDermott left the club and with the exception of Toronto Wolfpack where he had a bit of success at Championship level, no other Super League club or even Championship club has fallen over backwards to employ him as their Coach, have they
Some supporters need to take the blinkers off where McDermott's period of coaching at Leeds is concerned and also stop trying to ridicule any other supporters whose opinions they do not like and not meet their own "expert" opinions.
No wonder many on this website have stopped posting!

Convenient how you completely ignored the clubs that were in for McDermott. You also conveniently forget the fact Leeds finished FIFTH twice and still won it. By your logic the current Saints team doesn’t need coaching, the Wigan teams of 2010, 2013, 2016 and 2018 didn’t need coaching. Heck even the John Monie (and the rest) Wigan teams didn’t need coaching.
To say other posters need to take their blinkers off coming from you is genuinely the most hypocritical thing I’ve ever read.

They would have still won whoever was the Coach as their squad at the time they had a lot of success and twice won the Super League from fifth position, was like the St Helens squad of today, the best in the competition with many good players led by a captain in the same mould as O'Loughlin and Roby.
Like it was at Wigan during the first period of Monies tenue as Coach, when he also had squads of many good players and captains like Bell, Farrell, Hanley available to direct operations on the field.
Many Coaches can be successful if they are provided with the right squad of players which has not been the case at Wigan during the last three seasons or so of Lams tenue as Coach and which during the last season has also not been helped by no longer having a good captain like O'Loughlin on the field.

| So it’s Lenagans fault we scored the least amount of points per game across the whole league and Leeds won all their titles under McDermott due to the players coaching themselves.
In these hard Covid times every penny counts, so if I were Lenagan I wouldn’t bother with a new coach as clearly they’re pointless.

Good lord.
Leeds won the title from 5th in 2011 when we had one of our strongest side in years arguably better than the 2010 side. They repeated that feat in 2012. St Helens and Warrington also had very strong sides. To say they didn’t need coaching is beyond comprehension.
Delusional beyond belief.

Still not been approached by any Super League club to be their Coach, not even Wakefield and hopefully never Wigan!
Remember, the other Yorkshiremen with reputations to coach Wigan, Maurice Bamford and Brian Noble.
Hardly outstanding, were they!

| Can not understand why Wigan is always the last club to inform what is going on even Leigh gets more info than us Chester director of Rugby.

Maybe it's not been decided?
I do think they should at least said who's leaving and officially announce Thornley though.

| What I will say is that after reading Too Many Reasons to Live, Rob Burrows' autobiography I wouldn't want Brian McDermott coaching Wigan.

I've always felt he'd end up being another Millward. Great taking over a team that can coach itself, but ineffective when a team is a mess.
Plus, people forget that he's worked for IL in the past. Can't quite remember how that worked out, but if nothing else, IL should know his strengths and weaknesses.

Haven’t read it yet but due to shortly. Perhaps I’ll think differently after that.
