I understand what perhaps means, i just think it is very naive to say that it makes a fundemental difference to the potential offence of a statement, ''perhaps' you do but as i say you have to be particularly naive to think so, however scared you are to admit it.

If people don't have the capacity to understand certain simple words they'll always be offended by something.

And if people believe that prefacing a statement with perhaps removes the potential for offence then we can justify any statement, however offensive simply by starting the sentence with an uncertain adverb.

Perhaps if people didn't read what they want into things they might not be offended so easily.
