There comes to a point we’re you’ve taken a team to it limits. Not to discredit Salford because they are an amazing team, it’s their budget what let’s them down. Two major shots at the trophy must be getting Watson close to this limit, if he wins the CC, why wouldn’t you leave on a high.
If I was Watson I’d be looking to test myself at a bigger club, maybe try to catch the eye of the NRL.

| Quote: WWste "I like Wane but I can’t go back to that boring rugby. We need to be looking to the future. We need to secure Watson and give him the reigns to build a team. Allow some of his back room staff in the conditioning coach for one. Watson would get the best out of our youth and senior player and would see the areas we could improve on.
Rads would need to go for this to happen.'"
I find it hard to disagree with this. I’d have Watson as Head Coach, perhaps even look at James Ford as assistant. We’ve not only got to build our playing squad for the future but also our coaching set up. A snooker player plays 3-4 shots ahead, that’s what we’ve got to be doing, planning for 3-4 years in advance. That’s what’ll keep us at the top of our game

Danny Ward isn’t a bad shout but I wouldn’t touch Powell with a barge pole.

Powell wouldn't be popular but he consistently makes Cas more than the sum of their parts. Got close to major trophies with limited resources, never really see them have a shocking season. He would be an outsider here who knows the league. So you get to shake up the squad without having someone from Aus who wants to play summer rugby all season. Plus I can see him wanting the job as he does look frustrated at Cas.
My gut says Watson might not come because he's in such a good situation at Salford. I don't know why Wane left so can't be confident those reasons won't be prevent him from returning. I didn't enjoy his style of rugby, but got to respect that he won trophies with it.

I don’t doubt his “success” with Cas but it’s his whole persona, the “it’s never our fault but theirs” attitude. It just doesn’t fit in to the ‘Wigan’ way. To put it another way; I just don’t like him one iota.

Oh me either don't get me wrong. I don't like Brian McDermott either (even less so in person than on TV) but he had great success.

Said it before about Powell, "Agent Millward" with a giant Yorkshire chip on his shoulder, no thanks.

| What about Simon Woolford? He did a decent job with Huddersfield.

Taking them to LLS, a Grand Final and a CC Final isn't bad at all for the resources he's had.

| Powell is an excellent technical coach but he hates us as much as most of the Wigan fans hate him. He would never come and I'd never want him here. His main problem is looking to attribute everything that goes wrong to external factors rather than focusing on what he and the club can control.

I'm glad you said this...
I got shot down as I said Watson should be jumping at the chance of moving to us.
Let's face it "success" isn't reaching a final, or it isn't in my book anyway. Whilst both Watson and Powell have done good jobs, if they want real success that's winning the league or a CC. After that there's long term success with multiple wins and building a dynasty.

Note success in quotation marks making the word almost sarcastic

With a outstanding squad led by a outstanding captain and two great halfbacks which when it broke up, exposed McDermott limitations as a Coach with the result that he left the club and no other club in our country made a move for him.
