I will be laughed at for pointing out that the greatest RL player in the history of the game was better than a short d mouthy gobe.........
Ok whatever you say pal..............'"
My god, such conviction to go with not even half an argument.
How about you put Johns back in the day without his super fitness, playing with the 5 yard rule instead of 10. Playing on muddy pitches in the middle of winter, with a ball that weighed about 8 times what a modern day ball does. Do all that, and still be the most gifted half back of your generation by a country mile.
Now, give Murphy a perfectly dry track, 5 more yards to work in, far superior fitness levels, improving his natural speed even more, and give him alot more stamina.
Now, we'd start to see very different players in each respect, if you stuck them in another era.
Fact is you've no idea what so ever how each player would perform, you can only go off what they did when they played.
I'd love either player, even better I'd take both. The fact is though, I can't comment fully on Murphy as I never saw him week in week out. That's why I won't make stupidly bold comments based on a player I've really got no idea about.
