| Quote: Jeff the God of Biscuits "You seem to think that we, as Wiganers, care that you hate us? It doesn't bother us. It's a bunch of toothless rednecks spouting out uneducated drivel. If you put as much effort into supporting your club, as you did hating Wigan, you might get more than 1500 through the turnstiles each week.'"
Over the last 8 years, my approximate amount of time spent actively displaying a dislike for Wigan is approx 80 minutes. In that same timespan, I've worked thousands of unpaid hours directly for my club. I'm really not worried about my sense of perspective on this issue.
It's also irrelevant to us if Wiganers don't care or don't want to hear it.
I think we might get more through the gates if weren't playing in a league that limits you to being crowned the 15th best team in England, for the foreseeable future - and all at the behest of the morally suspect RFL.

| Quote: Finfin "Cough Splutter. Just remind me, how exactly was the Leigh Sports Village funded?'"
Its build was funded by:
* Sale of land at Leigh East
* Sale of land on Holden Road, previously home of Leigh Harriers.
* Transfer of council owned land for the LSV site to Greenbank partnership
* Central grant money from education and sporting sources
The arrangement for transfer of land to Greenbank was arranged so that Greenbank could develop the non public aspects of the site for profit, while they paid the upfront costs of the stadium, college, sports hall, athletics venue and Leigh East ARLFC facilities, minus any grant money available.
There maybe a little more detail to it, but that's the big picture stuff.

| Quote: salfordlad "Well obviously Leigh did not play anyone on Thursday but you are completely silly in your observations as is the following poster Fylde Warrior.
Did Leigh fans support really annoy you so much that you wish you had not supported your team ? Was there any violence in the Stands or in Wigan before or after the game ?
Was anyone psychologically damaged ? Why do you think even your own team came over to the Leigh end after the game to applaud the fans ?
I really do think if Wigan spent 180k on the salary cap instead of 1.8 million per season you would not be in such a smug silly mood as Fylde Warrior who constantly posts condescending tripe on the Leyther board.
Get real for Leythers this was our Cup Final. OK you won. Did anyone think they would not ?'"
Nothing condescending about pointing out a few home truths. No doubt Salford Lad you were part of the gloating mob celebrating your first team beating up on our youngsters in a meaningless pre season friendly.
However, such stupidity is meaningless. Far more damaging is the small minded ignorance that holds back rugby league in Leigh and many parts of this country. Look at Leigh East and their self inflicted demise brought about by Leythers hurting Leythers. Why? self interest, short term thinking.
Leythers are either too wrapped up in their own little world to realise a bigger better RL would sell RL to more Leythers than Leigh RLFC ever could. Look at Leigh schools, Leigh junior teams despite some sterling individual efforts, development of junior RL talent still does not fully reflect a RL hotbed.
Every club in the RL has to contend with the RFL, local and national government yet the people of Leigh wallow in self pity and deluded pats on the back for singing Karoake. Leythers have the DW stewards to thank for their handling of the dark age neanderthal behaviour of the Leigh fans. Last night could have become very ugly.

Why could it? Which likely scenarios were going to result in the situation becoming 'very ugly'?
We were there to make some noise, not for a scrap. I saw not even a hint of trouble anywhere in or around the ground.
What an incredibly ridiculous thing to suggest.

| Sometimes when people are wrong they just can't see it.
Lifelong Leythers like me think Wigan have some great players and for me Sam Tomkins is the best talent in the game.
Leigh fans tried to lift our side after an abysmal performance at Halifax.
Our players responded to that support and Wigan players thought so too otherwise they wouldn't have applauded Leigh fans support at the end of the game.
We know Wigan have a very good side and some extremely talented players and I just cannot believe anyone at last nights game apart from one or two who live such sheltered lives could possibly get annoyed with that.
Not one person was arrested. No person was ejected from the ground. There was no fighting between opposing fans before or after the game.
You think Leythers are bad you are deluded and should watch footie teams like Millwall.
Just to finish I think Wigan are a very good side and I hope one day the club I support have the same.

When did Wigan last do / win anything under Shaun Wayne?
Lets see what happens to Wigan when they play an equivelant team like Leed Rhinos! Last season Leeds battered Wigan in the challenge cup and the play offs and will do so again this season, as will the Wire and Saints!
Best about this is all you can hear are the Leigh fans out singing the the wigan fans!'"
If you are "a loyal Leigh fan since 1968" how come you were listening to the match on GMT rather than attending the match?
Please don't tell me you working ... we all know Leigh's six fingered glove factory closes at 5pm

If the DW stewards had intervened and acted at any point last night then all hell would have broken loose. You know that, I know that, as everybody does. The stewards had to ignore anything and everything re behaviour that they should act upon. To keep the peace they turned a blind eye.

Due to the difficult economic climate, exports of both six fingered gloves and meyt n prater pie fillings to Wigan have fallen dramatically. So much so, most of the Leigh workforce are no longer employed in either the six fingered glove factories or the pie filling mining industry.
I think most of them work in pound shops now, but I don't have any official figure to back that up...

What behaviour in particular was causing problems that should have required steward intervention?
On a related point, I saw the same steward head to the rear of the stand on a couple of occasions. There was never any trouble, and people did as they were asked (clearing the steps I think).
Why do you seem so intent on suggesting that there was malice in the Leigh fans behaviour? Your conjecture is contradictory to the actual evidence.

You are having a dig at a Leigh supporter (Salford Lad) who does a tremendous amount of work for the Leigh club, I was with him for a little while on Friday in the pub before the match and he was telling me that he never misses a match home or away.
But all you can say is trouble by Leigh supporters was averted by the stewards turning a blind eye, maybe if the Huddersfield stewards had turned a blind eye a few weeks ago against some Wigan supporters Wigan would have come out of the situation with an untarnished reputation.
I do not think so.

Brian this Wigan fan is so against everything Leigh it's embarrassing he's always on our forum putting us down as if we are not already down enough lets get back to the good banter that was being posted before the game. Sorry I couldn't have a pint with you last night mate maybe next time. Good luck for the season to all genuine Wigan fans.

| Unfortunatey, even Wigan have some narrow minded fans. Nothing wrong with banter, its all part of the game. As a Wigan fan , i hope to see Leigh become more secure in their future and enjoy the rivallry between the teams, in true derby style.

Thanks jeffb. Most Leigh fans, the ones I know anyway would love to be one day half as good as Wigan are now, but sadly we are a long way from even being that. Good luck for the season.
