| Quote: moonlight flit "Absolutely, that's why wire loved Les Boyd.
The guy was probably the biggest thug to ever play RL.
The thing is, when he decided to play the game instead of trying to literally kill the opposition he was a class front rower. So don't take any crap from the 'whiter than white' wire fans.
They still revere him now.
IIRC he was [i'sine died' [/idownunder.'"
You are having to go back a long way there to draw a comparison with Hock's gouge.
The game was very very different then.
More recent was Mick Cassidys digraceful 'tackle' on Morley when moz was at Leeds
I have yet to see worse, apart from maybe Barrie Mac on Sironen.
Both ex Wigan players.....
And i am sure Cassidy was very well respected.
My point is, Hock should be judged on what he did, by todays standards. Comparisons with 30 years ago are utterly pointless and frankly a thinly veiled attempt to deflect attention from his thuggery and total loss of composure under pressure.
The fact that this board has 'fans' that seem to want to minimise or defend his actions reflects poorly on wigan and dare i say it, the wigan brand.

| There's that big brush again. One or two muppets say something you disagree with and suddenly it's all of Wigan that's at fault.
For the record, I haven't seen anyone defend eye gouging. I have seen some say he didn't gouge the eyes (something that's still be decided if he's guilty or not of) but almost everyone has said what an idiot move it was and that he deserves whatever ban he gets.
Don't let that get in the way of your moral crusade we all know what angels the wire team is.

I agree that wire are not angels, and i didn't even pretend or infer that they were. I also did not blame 'wigan' for anything i merely stated it reflects badly on the brand. It does.
I didn't say or infer that it was the majority, just that you had fans that are trying to defend Hock.
Also i didn't say they were defending the act of gouging, but were trying to defend Hocks actions.
Both of the above you have just agreed with, whilst criticising my post.
Are you easily confused or have you just not read it?

Definition of eye gouge: Eye-gouging is the act of pressing or tearing the eye using the fingers, other bodyparts, or instruments.
What you've done is describe some possible effects, not the act itself.
Unless an eye gauge is referring to some kind of measuring instrument for the eye, in which case I'm pretty sure your definition is still wrong.
Like others, I'm very surprised, and a little disappointed, that Briers wasn't summoned to Red Hall for at least a telling off.

All the greats had a nasty side Edwards, Bell, Murphy, Boyd, Morley, Gregory etc etc.
Don't get me wrong, gouging is a naughty thing to be doing and he deserves whatever ban he receives, but i am happy he decked Harrison.
Now i am only talking about the punch and before the "mock" outraged majority jump on me for wishing blindness on a player, i would prefer not to be seeing anything like that.
I LOVE it when a Wigan player decides to chin a Wire, Saints, Leeds player, its all part of the game and its why i pay my money.
Perhaps he is a liability but its not like he lost us the game. I like the excitement of not knowing what is going to happen next.'"
Ooh, no. We don't like to see brawling on the field. No place for it in the modern game etc etc.
Stevo said so, and he'd never have been involved in anything like that....

| I have no objection to a stand up fight between players.
Never been a fan of high tackles as you are fairly defenceless and they can really hurt.
Cowardly acts like Hocks outburst have no place on the pitch at all.
The tomkins slide in i have no problem with at all as he acted instinctively to try and save a try. It should be a penalty and nothing more.
I reckon Hock will get 4 games and maybe 1 for the punches.
I honestly hope that the club accepts whatever he gets and lodges no appeal or convoluted defence.
Minimising incidents like this is not in the spirit of the game or sport in general. imo

| Is Hock an utter moron? Given his 2 year ban, he pulls this crap at the business end of the season. Stupid, stupid, stupid.

No, he may be a few slices short of a full loaf, but he was taken in by the moment and frustration of what happened on Sunday.
What happened on Sunday has absolutely nothing to do with his 2 year ban, he already had a run in with the law when he got 6 matches for touching an official. That should be more of a concern.

Spot on.
The disciplinary will go off his past record at Red Hall, not what WADA handed out.

Are you trying to say quite a few wire fans don't hold Les Boyd in the highest of esteem ?
If you are, your decidedly wrong.

where do i say that?
so far i have had words put in my mouth 3 times.
Each one has tried to make it sound like i am offering an argument that i clearly am not, so you can try to have a go.
Sad gents.

I should clarify: I meant his two year suspension left him out of action for that period, and now he again places his chances of playing by engaging in stupid behaviour.

| As a wigan fan I hope he gets a light ban. He was our most dangerous player on Sunday and could help out at prop if Mossop isn't fit.
As a rugby fan I hope they throw the book at him. That action has no place in the game.
