| Quote: NickyKiss "It was encouraging to hear Lammy say we’re not giving up on keeping him. It sounded like we still think there’s a chance and I really hope there is. He is sublime and as Wigan fans we’ve not had enough opportunities to watch him in the flesh. I know it’s ridiculous but I can’t help wonder if we could come to some sort of arrangement that allows him to have a few weeks at home mid season. That feels ridiculous typing it but if there are ways if facilitating him staying, we’d be daft not to look at them.'"
For me, French confirmed he'd signed for Parra in his post-match interview. Absolute textbook example of how to lie and dodge a question badly.

He’s very fast and has a great step, but he isn’t the biggest/strongest and defences are generally better in the NRL than Super League.
I think he’s at his level right now if I’m honest. I see him as someone like a Amos Roberts or George Carmont who were never top NRL players, but were excellent in Super League.'"
Depends what you mean by ‘good enough for the NRL’. If you mean good enough as in good enough to play in the NRL, then he’s more than good enough. If you mean good enough as in would he terrorise teams like last night, then he’s probably not but not many are. What I never like to buy in to is this opinion that some British fans seem to have (I’m not saying you’re one by the way) that the NRL is full of super humans and that there are very few players over here who could manage to play in that competition. It really isn’t and we’ve seen plenty of examples recently of decent superleague players going over and excelling. Guys like Sutton, Hodgson, Cooper, Whitehead etc weren’t considered top players in their positions over here but all have smashed it in the NRL.
Going back to French, it may be as a winger or it may be at fullback but the guy has more than enough talent to hold a place in the NRL. Why he didn’t before stumps me. Maybe he lost confidence, maybe he’s just developed his game now or he may just have realised what he’s give up and has buckled down but I’ve seen some real average lads playing on the wings in the NRL this year and he’d walk in ahead of those guys. You compare him to Carmont and Amos Roberts and it’s probably a good comparison (especially Roberts) but you ask could he play in the NRL? Well both of those guys did and to a good standard, so French like those two could as well. Just checked and Amos Roberts scored 108 try’s in 177 NRL games so I wouldn’t downplay what a good player he was over there.
He is better suited to this league though and fingers crossed we pull off a miracle and keep him.

Roberts was a top NRL player

I think he'd struggle if they stick him on the wing - he'd be physically out matched by bigger and stronger players. It's almost a pre-requisite to be a man mountain on the wing over there. I think Iv seen reports/interviews saying he was frustrated being picked on the wing and he was always looking for a chance to play fullback. He also got slated for one particular performance where he only made one or two carries in the whole game.
Pick him at full back and he'll stand out even in the NRL but it would be a risk to go to Parramatta knowing who he has to displace. If he doesnt start well he might end up getting stuck out on the wing again.

| Sublimely awesome last night, Powell MoM for me, Just a shame Lockers will come back next week for 17 minutes, give 3 headshots and a knock on thus disrupting the fantastic work the boys have put in, Just as we start moving forward he pulls us back down

Why?

Why could you not just give the team some credit in your post without having to mention SOL. Just this once would have been nice. Your continuous obsession around him is embarrassing mate, I'm embarrassed for you. I'm convinced you're a troll.

Not getting involved in your usual attempts on trying to get a rise from people on Lockers but I’ve probably got to the point of agreeing that I’d leave him out now unless he covered for injuries. He’s played 20-30 mins a game when he’s been fit, had a mare in the semi final and even on limited minutes, he’s picked up a couple more injuries. It’s too much of a risk to pick him because in these end of season games you don’t want to play with 16 men.
My starting pack now would be the one from last night, so it’s just the make up of the bench that needs thinking about. We know what our first choice 1-7 will be if they’re all fit and we know Clubb will be on the bench, so there are 3 spots left if Lockers is out.

Re. the bench, Shorrocks for Smithies, I'd find a space for Smith incase plan A isn't working and if Havard can get a game in before the semis he definitely gets in and Flower before Clubb.

Yeah one assumes the plan is for Smith to be our starting halfback next year so we really do need to keep him getting gametime. Lam may not be incentivised to do this though if he knows he's not going to be here.

Because it's true, We've seen it on a few occasions over the last 2 seasons, He get's injured, We start playing great rugby, He then comes back and we revert to type, stop being jealous because I'm the only one brave enough to mention it on this site

It’s an interesting battle the Shorrocks and Smithies one. I probably would say Shorrocks was adding a little more when he was in the side than what Smithies has done since he’s been back. I fully agree it would be lovely to have Havard back in and in that ideal world a bench of Havard, Flower, Smithies and Smith would be my preference. I’d just select Smithies ahead of Shorrocks simply on the basis of the aggression he brings and I really think he’ll be a big game player throughout his career. It’s a tight on that though.

| Shorrocks has been impressive in his appearances this season. He's not a prop, but then again, neither is Smithies. And he strikes me as a bit more of a footballer than Smithies, if you know what I mean. Certainly both of them should be in contention.
