The trick would have been to say "that's all over with".

But I suspect that whatever publicity Permanent Assistant Shaun was trying to drum up for the Six Nations will be forgotten in today's new development.

The things SE is saying now ties in to what happened, so for me makes it more believable.

“lack of security”
We know he wasn’t offered a contract, rather a verbal agreement. Probably one of the most ridiculous and embarrassing things I’ve heard our great club do, just above offering Tony Clubb a 2yr extension.

“Coaching staff choices weren’t approached”
Wigan have kept the same back room staff for Lam as with Wane (minus Bitcon) for the second season running. That either means Lam didn’t want his own staff, plausible as he was only supposed to be here for one season, or he was never given the choice - plausible again as there has been no movement. IL likes the assistant to Head Coach route, as proven with Wane and probably why John Winder is still there. Honestly I can believe IL didn’t want SE’s coaching staff as they’d cost a fortune as opposed to the much cheaper option he has now.

“Williams sold behind my back”
Nothing really to back that up but given IL has been adventurous with the truth in the past it’s hard to not be tempted in by the notion he hasn’t been truthful with SE.

There’s 3 sides to every story; version A, version B and the truth.

If he ever turns up at the stadium or training ground again he should be promptly turned away.

A great player, but he's set fire to his legacy.

Point is it was practically forgotten about and 3 days before the season starts he digs it up again with seemingly no other purpose but to show us in a bad light.
Now his side of the story might be 100% true but his behaviour still makes him an asshole.

Yep and I can’t disagree with that. It’s best being laid to rest where it was than continually being dug up though it’s almost certain this was a question asked by a journo in an interview rather than SE deliberately coming out to say this.

Just thinking about this for a minute. Why would Edwards (and the club) think that surrounding him with his own coaching staff (ie. RU people) when coming back to coach League after being away for such a long time would be a good idea?

Surely it would make common sense for Edwards to surround himself with trusted and capable Rugby League people?

Its a risk to bring in a head coach from RU and expect him to hit the ground running, never mind him and a full coaching set from RU. (This is before we even get onto the salary side of things). No wonder the club didn't back him on this.

This post is really happy clapping in its purest form. To suggest we bring in a coach but then dont trust him to bring in his own staff is bonkers.

Mr Edwards, we know you've just signed a 3 year contract to coach us, but we are not sure you know what you're doing so we will decide your backroom staff.

Its laughable.

Laughable? Reducing the risk on a coach who's been out of the game for nearly twenty years.

Coming from the man who brought us synthetic muscles (that you inflate and deflate).

Implanted Cheetah DNA.

Skerrett forwards coach.

Andy Greg attacking coach.

Now that's laughable. icon_lol.gif

I see your point but if the club backed and had faith in SE to be Head Coach the caveat to that is that he’s backed with his staff too. You can’t just hire a Head Coach and on one hand tell him you trust him to take the club further but on the other say but we don’t trust you to bring in your own staff.

It’s all or nothing IMO and IF it went down the way SE says it did then he has a right to be annoyed.

Very strange that people (not insinuating yourself, saying lots of people) tend to believe the side of the story from the ones that shout loudest.
Whatever went on I think we can all agree that neither side came out smelling of Rose's.
Now since then one side has said nothing whilst another has given reasons nearly 12 mo ths later that they didn't give when the agreement was called off.
If Edward's felt so aggrieved back in jan/feb19 last year then why not come out and give his side of the story then?
Why bring it up now?
Why change story from the official one given last year?
If his reasons are different now and they are correct then why agree to the official release last year and do we class that as lying to the public back then?
Who/what has aggrieved him so much that he feels he has to come out and say this now?

95% of the rumours (that then get interpreted as facts) feom message boards, Facebook, Twitter, pub gossip, end up going nowhere whilst in the meantime people twist and manipulate the info to suit their agenda. I tend not to waste too much of my time worrying about things like this.

End of the day Sean Edwards is a Wigan legend, by coming back he would have cemented that place almost irrespective of his success near the top of the legends category.
He sisters want to, he changed his mind for whatever reason and fine.
But for me every time he does something like this hell slip further down in my eyes.

Ps
The article tells about his desire to be a head coach again, maybe just maybe he needs to get a reason out there blaming someone else for the reason he backed out of his last opportunity, so any potential employers dont think hed do that to them?

I know and you raise some good points.

To be quite frank I don’t know who to believe; a chairman who, lets face it has been adventurous or exaggerating with the truth or a club legend who initially said he didn’t come because he wasn’t going to be ready and now is saying it’s because of a lack of control.

I don’t think we’ll ever know, and I also don’t think we need to either. We all, SE included, need to move on and look forward to what will hopefully be a successful period under Lam. Not wonder what might have been under SE.
