| Pathetic. Absolutely pathetic.
It shows how far Super League has fallen.
No chance I will be buying a season ticket. We are a second rate competition with bang average second rate players.
Every year our best players leave and we sign average players. This has happened every year since 2010. I haven't been excited by a Wigan signing since the Melbourne trio in 2011.
Truth is I don't blame the club. We win trophies. Promote youth. Do the best we can. It is just depressing for the sport in the UK the lack of top tier talent we can attract to this competition.
Our best UK players go to Australia. Cannon fodder players just float around Super League. The only big names we can attract as a sport are players that have cocked up in their competition and have nowhere else to play like Barba. After one year they are straight off again.
Pathetic. What makes this all the more sick is that when played at the highest level there is no sport that can compete with Rugby League. My conviction of that will never wane.

| I am absolutely amazed at the wealth of coaching knowledge on this board , no wonder Wigan are such a successes full club with all these SL quality coaches watching from the seats
Have any of you ever thought of actually going out and trying to coach a real club ?
Leyther here , all the best

| So is Escare just our reserve full back now rather than an impact player off the bench? Such a waste if we have him sat in the stands

Super League has fallen? No, not really. It's Wigan signing second rate championship players not SL.
Saints have signed NRL starts Lachlan Coote and Kev Naiqama.
Wire have signed Blake Austin
Cats have signed Sam Tomkins
Hudds have signed Akuila Uate
Hull KR have signed Kane Linnett
Leeds have signed Tui Lolohea, Trent Merrin and Konrad Hurrell
Salford have signed Ken Sio and renewed on Jackson Hastings

Agree Grimmy.
And Drinkwater still hasn't a club.

Ask Mickey the question about instigating a move and see if his reply matches yours. I’ll be happy to wager that it doesn’t

I think Drinkwater priced himself out of a move to be honest. He’d easily be the preferred and much celebrated choice for a signing.

| He did OK at Wakey a few seasons ago. Was one of them players who was capable something brilliant out of nowhere but at the same time a possible liability. Didn't play a whole lot for us then eventually just stopped getting picked all together then shipped out on loan - rumors were due to his attitude. Maybe it was something to do with him apparently doing a crap in someones boot...

| Quote: Rogues Gallery "Sammutt signing for Wigan just emphasises everything that's wrong with Rugby League over here. A 32 year old average player taking up an overseas spot. I've argued for years that we should be getting the quotas down to a maximum of three and the fact that Wigan have done it doesn't change my views. I obviously hope he does well but if we were going to sign an overseas player I would much rather us have signed a Gabe Hamlin type "project" player.'"
Just to play devil's advocate for a second - I would have thought that one of the club's main priorities after Tomkins and Bateman leaving would be to recruit some experience and leadership skill. I think you get that with Sammut whereas you wouldn't with a young 'project' player.
That's not to say I'm happy with the quality of player however. I feel underwhelmed like many although I do think there's a chance he could surprise us a little.

| He's a player I've always enjoyed watching as a neutral and a very good goal kicker. Looking forward to seeing what impact he can have. One thing's for sure it'll mark a move away from 'wedge, wedge, inside ball'.

Super League has fallen. Certainly in terms of quality of RL. That's my opinion. I guess the challenge is how do you measure quality of games? Is it purely subjective. The falling attendances and lack of big name sponsors suggest the game is losing its appeal. Despite our barren years, I felt the quality of RL was better 2000 - 2010. The best talent play in other competitions/sports. No-one wants to run a reserve squad anymore. Cannon fodder just gets passed around the leagues. No big names. No big draws. Why bother taking interest in it? Name one star of Super League. There isn't one.
With the NRL names you mention - I agree our rivals have strengthened better, but that was hardly difficult.

| Cast your minds back to 2010 and we had exactly the same response to the signing of Paul Deacon. "What do we need hiim for", "no better than we already have" and "is this the best we can do" abounded on these boards. I was one of a very few voices who said it could turn out to be a very good signing and look how that turned out!
So I'm going to say it again; "this could turn out to be a very good signing"*
*Well, it worked last time!

| Paul Deacon of multiple trophy-winning teams and international caps? I think back then it was why are we ONLY signing Paul Deacon and yes that worked out well but to compare him to Sammut is stretching it a bit.
