| Quote: Pemps "I remember a testimonial game at Central Park, maybe Martin Dermott’s. At half time Offiah had a race against Ade Mafe, 200m Commonwealth Games athlete. Offiah beat him over the length of the pitch. They ran in boots and with a ball in hand.'"
Yes it was Derm's .
Remember Martin Dermott entering the sprint challenge and doing nothing but muck about at first, was a really fun day.
Truth is nobody will ever be able to prove who was the fastest - the comparison of a player running at full speed and a defender having to try and catch him (often from a standing start or having to turn) is invalid. A yard start will always favour the attacker. Offiah will always be up there as one of the fastest without a doubt but the fastest? No one can truly say.

true but the defender is running without a ball in hand so is easier to run and can run more natural. thats when I saw Offiahs proper speed when he chased back, wasnt often but was crazy, crazy pace. Like when Dallas caught Sullivan at the DW.

| One winger we had and who wasn't the fastest, became a legend for the club IMHO. But what he could do, was be exceptionally 'quick off the mark'. He was at top speed in one stride.
And another skill he had, to quote Ray French; [i"This feller can sidestep on a tanner"[/i.
John Ferguson was his name.

His raw speed wasnt what people make it out to be
He was very fast but not super human fast.
It was the way he could maintain that speed whilst swerving around players and he was actually a very good all round player who was always in the right place at the right time and could read the game brilliantly.

| I was at the game and was sat behind the GB dugout . I was chatting to a GB player that I knew well ( he was injured and due to go on the next plane home). He told me that some of the players had money on Oudenryn.

Warrington led 16-2 in Saturday's Grand Final, but their joy was short-lived as Wigan roared back to win the Super League title and extend the Wire's 58-year wait to be champions:d7dc4b20b2c2dd7b76ac6eac29d5604e_10174.png |

| Could be an idea for the Magic weekend.
'Fastest Man in Super League'.
Have heats and a final during the weekend. Get a sponsor to put up a prize, the winner gets to wear an appropriate sleeve badge for the next 12 months. Make stars of our players?

I'd like to watch it, but realistically it's a none-starter. No chance teams would want their wingers doing competitive 100m sprints before a game. Aside from the injury risk and fatigue, it would mess with their preparation before and after games (ie getting there early for the first heat, staying late after the game for later heats when they should be recovering, or allowing the player to travel alone). Teams at that level take this stuff seriously these days. Plus you presumably at some point have players who have played a game running against players who haven't.
Having it before the Grand Final or CC Final might work better, but obviously you would have to omit players from the finalists, and there's a fair chance players will have miraculous surgery or bugger off on holiday/back home to Aus as they did during the Exiles games. Like I say, in a perfect world I'd like to see it, and we should be looking to make stars of them.
