| At Bradford after Smith laid the foundations as a clack Elliot took the glory and Noble rode the wave despite being ridiculously average as a coach.
I feel Maguire did a stunning job at Wigan Wane has ridden the wave and momentum but now as it wears off this is his team. At the moment he is not good enough. Skill level is shocking mentality is wrong and recruitment has been shocking.
As for youth...what is the obsession with Wiganers?! We need a winning team not a team full of kids!
Young players should earn the right by taking shirts off the older players backs by performing not just getting given them because they were born in the town.
Our chairman talks about Wigan as a global brand but we are currently ruled by a very insular mentality.

All of them
None of them world beaters when he arrived.
They are MM team as they played under his rules even when SW was coach
SW stated he will change the way we play
Certainly did that..losing all the time
Now we have an idiot ego maniac in charge
Souths have the best coach in the world
SW Decided his methods were not good enough

So he's only changed the methods now we didn't win anything in 2014? Have a day off mate, you can't have it both ways. Either SW gets all the credit and all the blame for anything since MM left or MM gets all the credit and all the blame.
To say we only won because of MM and only lose because of SW is an asinine argument.

Nah...he publicly stated we will play a different way this season.
At least he was honest with that.

| Quote: NickyKiss "It wasn't a problem in 2012, 2013 or 2014.
We didn't win everything but the attitude was always as good as any I've seen in a Wigan side and that's including the great ones of the lates 80's/early 90's.
Our years of under investment in the playing staff from the owner are starting to bite. That's were our issues lie IMO.'"
We didn't lose much in those years either. The odd rollocking, neither here nor there for the odd loss when you are wining most games. It's got to be easy to coach a wining team and one that has experienced players in it.
Wane now has to prove he can drag a team up from the deck and if his reaction to defeat is always to ball them out and flog them in training then eventually the players will not play for him anymore, you can bet on that. They will want him to fix the problems but if the solution is always the same and it doesn't work, what would you do?

| I personally find the push up comments embarassing.
What next oranges at half time with a fag?
We are supposed to be professional, push ups as punishment is not that.

When Wane first took over he said he was going to do things differently. I could not believe it at the time and I am sure it was debated on here. Why change a winning formula?
He said it again recentlyhttps://www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk/sport/rugby-league/shaun-still-wigans-wane-man-8443966rl
I was keen for Wane to take over as I thought it would bring continuity but from the off he decided he knew better and I was stunned when he said that. He clearly still thinks it's "my way, or no way".
He has also said he would change things for 2015 and its clear we don't play the same sort of game as we did under MM.
The question is has Wane got the humility and brains to accept he might not know best and could learn a thing or two from looking to other coaches, one of whom would be MM?
Personally, I have my doubts but something has got to change.

| One thing I will say is that spectacularly-executed face-palm inducing defensive blunders, such as the fistful Charnley provided tonight, are very, very bad for a player's career. No professional can afford to draw attention to his own inadequacies for very long before confidence is fatally undermined.

| Quote: NickyKiss "We didn't put an ounce of effort in aside from Bateman from minute one and I saw the most embarrassing site I've seen on a rugby league field as Cas scored their last try. Matty Bowen gave up! Totally gave up and let their player round him and rather then hold his hand up he threw his hand to his hamstring and feigned injury. As soon as Cas scored the try he was fine and back on his feet.
No individual is at blame for our issues (well bar maybe the man that controls the budget) but that was unforgivable from Bowen.'"
Yep - I saw that. Poor show from Bowen and I cannot see him getting a place for the Cherry and Whites next week. No excuses for doing something like that IMO.

| As usual there is a massive OTT reaction on here.
At the end of last year Wane was touted by many as the only option for England coach.
We have been very poor with discipline and ball control. Sort that out and we would have been unbeaten in 3.
Last night seems to be the first time in a long time where we seemed to be completely out of the game.
Interesting test of Wane's coaching now . Think a lot of posters on this thread will be be very quiet in 2-3 months time.

| I just really don't like Wane's style of Rugby. Drive it up in the forwards, nothing stupid, then put a move on in the 3rd and 4th tackles. It's SO predictable. When watching the Hull v Leeds game on Thursday, it was amazing how many times Leeds offloaded the ball, and it was a pleasure to watch. It created so much space and led to so many tries. We never offload the ball, it's Wane's pet hatred i think.
Also, our discipline is non existent. If Wane has anything about him then Farrell, Tomkins and Charnley will be nowhere near the 17 next week.

| It doesn't seem too long ago that the majority of the posters on here were waxing lyrical about Shaun Wane's coaching ability and saying that he would be a major target for NRL clubs wanting a new head coach
I wouldn't have thought he was any better or worse now than he was back then, personally i never thought it was a good idea to let a fan be our head coach, he should have stayed as a number 2 or head of junior development

| Quote: MattyB "Not that long ago we were quite comfortably the team to beat in SL. Reigning champions, best attack, best defence. Of course we eased off towards the back end of the season as usual giving away the shield. However we were at Old Trafford yet again ready to take the crown away from our bitter rivals. They weren't that confident so much so they failed to sell thousands of their tickets in week leading up to the final.
Around the same time Shaun Wane had managed to shrug off his 'ape' jibes, hell....even on the VT forum he was being lined up as the next National Coach
Then....
2nd October 2014
SKY decided to show 'Warriors down under' and it all came crashing down.
I watched it once, found it horrendous. As cringing as the Alex Murphy post match swear fest back in the early eighties. His dressing room comments should have stayed there! He came across as thuggish and very limited.
At the time I hoped it would spur us onto victory regardless.
And then the GF.........
and it's been downhill since then!
Every single game this season (London Skolars apart) Wigan have not performed well), I include Brisbane in that as well. Defensively sound yes but average in attack!
Long weeks & months ahead. Oh well, theres always the cup!'"
Couldn't agree more mate the wigan down under was a. Chance to show the professionalism of your club and represent the sport. It was all over sky on catchup and demand and it was nothing more than a swear fest, as you said. Typical of the rugby league raw program which was embarrassing to watch. I believe this to be the problem at wigan.
