We've had a lot of success with our structured attack over the last 5 years and may continue to do so but I do feel we need more variety at times.'"
That's nice to hear actually. This is what Nobby failed to do & why lots of coaches that stay with the same club for a while end up leaving under a cloud when their tactics are unpicked.
I hope he doesn't get too radical & end up confusing our poor dears, but if he's skipped a few letters & worked out plan F, this should be interesting (I hope).

| The "playing differently" was the bit that interested me as well.
Tautai has come in and is known for his good passing and offloads. He now has two of the fastest props in SL with Clubb and Patrick. Perhaps we are going to be more dynamic up the middle where as well as the fast ptb Waney will have them tackle busting with supporting players picking up the pass or offload.
Offloads were never high in the team stats so that would be a real change in the way the team will play. He will also have more pace in the middle from the smaller men. Williams is fast as is Hampshire either from fb or hb. Those two could be devastating picking up passes and offloads.
Looks like something really different and exciting to look forward to.

However as a general rule, surely even you can see the irony in him training with Souths after him spitting his dummy out earlier in the year?'"
Not really. That's been the case as long as I've been watching the game. It's not unusual to go as far as arranging warm up games. Usually these things are regarded as benefitting both parties. He made it plain at the time that he was angry that Wire went out of their way to do things like imitate Wigan's way of playing (which has absolutely no benefit to Wire whatsoever) which he thought was a bridge too far. Its like arguing that the next time a Saints player hits an opposition player the club are being hypocrites after the fuss they made of the Flower incident. I'm sure WHEN that happens (as opposed to if! ) you'll argue that the two incidents are different and the fuss made over the Flower incident had a completely different set of circumstances. Or am I wrong?

No grey area, I've given you everything you need, I even gave you Smith's response to it which was specific to the issue - the fact you keep ignoring it speaks volumes.
Wigan trained with Souths in the week of the WCC this year, they are just returning the favour - no surprise Maguire wants to train at Wigan given he was instrumental in developing and changing a lot of what is at Orrell.

I accept that IF Wane's issue was purely with Warrington imitating Wigan and he has no intention of setting up as Saints in training with Souths then he isn't as hypocritical as I first thought.
My initial comments were based on the fact that he took umbrage with Warrington simply training with Roosters. If that wasn't the case then fair enough.

| Quote: The Yellow Giraffe "I'm not surprised Wigan fans love him; his love for Wigan and hatred for Saints is extremely evident in almost every interview he does.
One thing that Saints haven't had in recent times is a coach with real passion for the club who understands the local rivalry; hopefully that will change with Cunningham in charge.
Wane does border on disrespectful at times though. He allows his hatred for Saints to cloud his judgement and he comes across quite petty. Take this interview for example - listing Leeds, Salford and Warrington as rivals for next year but not mentioning the Champions just comes across as silly. Also his insistence on referring to Saints as "them" or "that lot" during interviews; it's unprofessional and quite childish of him.
You can't knock his passion and commitment to Wigan though.'"

If you don't bother to go to the game when you live in the locality then you are not really a fan and therefore your views are invalid. It's simple.:icons39ad_files/4821-1859san_c-msnicons.jpg |

| With Saints' changes, both on and off the pitch, their approach to how they play the game could be totally different next season. If this is the case I can't see Wane being a massive help to Maguire.

Fair enough on the rest but I don't quite follow the first statement. In what way did Wigan defend Flower's actions? As I remember they pretty much condemned his actions outright. Unless you've seen something that I didn't...

I don't think Wigan did defend his actions. What I mean is, if a Saints player did what Flower did and then we defended him, after the fuss we made over Flower, that would make us hypocrites.

| There was one instigator, two protagonists.
The instigator was not dealt with, wrongly. The other protagonist was dealt with, rightly.
Both should have been dealt with in the same manner, sent off!

Watch it again. Flower started it. Hohaia then escalated it and Flower reacted appalingly. Hohaia wasn't the instigator but he got off lightly with 1 game.

Not this tired old tosh again. LH, in keeping with standard saints tactics last season, ran a deliberate obstruction line. Flower did what any player from any team would likely do, and ran through him. So if you want to lay blame at an instigator, then look no further than Mr Brown, who presumably laid out the sneaky obstruction tactics. If you think that is nonsense then you will have to discredit all the Saints fans blaming Mr Wane for Flower's aggressive reaction. Before you claim it's nonsense look how many people - fans, pundits and ex referees alike were surprised at how Turner got away with some blatant obstructions towards the end of the season. only matched by the ever sneaky Danny Maguire.
Perhaps if Wigan had been as good at it then Makinson would have ended on his , and not over the line for a try.

Watch that try again, the Wigan player (Bateman) did the exact same thing as Hohaia ... Except chose to block Turner not Makinson - players are allowed to stand their ground etc.
But yes, it's boring old ground, and there's no need to go through it again
