| Quote: WARRIORCRAIG " The major question mark is over Wigan's recruitment policy when replacing departing players, not who is leaving.'"
It is two sides of the same coin.
Wigan know which players are going to see their contracts out and which ones are likely targets for bids. It is up to the club to mange the departures (and when people leave) so as we don't end up with a team of strangers as has happened this year. Compared to Leeds we do not do this as well nor as well as the club has done in the past.

| So to conclude the poor atmosphere is Lenegan's fault ...

| Anyone remember the survey the club sent out towards the back end of last season? Think it was via email.
Asking the fans about what they think of the atmosphere and how they think it can be improved, it was fairly long survey! So they got all the fans opinions on what can be done and improved then they did the complete opposite of what the fans wanted and made things worse.

How do YOU know they did that. I suspect they did what the MAJORITY of fans who replied wanted. Did you answer the e-mail?
Now to me the problem is that a lot of fans didn't even know about the survey (clubs fault) or they didn't respond (fans fault), and yes I did reply.

| The crowd's bound to be a little subdued. We lost a lot of experience and character in the off-season. We haven't started off well and a couple of the signings haven't hit the ground running. Hopefully someone like Burgess will help raise the crowd when he gets the ball a la Robinson and Tomkins, but those kind of players are few and far between. Scott Taylor could be another and so could Bowen given time. In the close season we could have really done with a BIG marquee signing to whet the appetite but it didn't happen. Hopefully plans are already in place for next year...

| my take is that a lot of the fans who started the chants were kids, and now they are 16 they cant/wont pay the big extra cost of a season ticket. Add to that the fact that they are easy to keep an eye on in the designated area ?
The "designated" area was never going to work (as i predicted and got shot down), singing isnt something you can orchestrate, unless its in church, its a spontaneous thing, brought on by a feel good factor. Its a sign that someones happy. Sitting there freezing your cods off on a cold friday night isnt condusive to feeling happy. A lot of fans are sat watching the game and trying to keep warm. As others have pointed out, all seaters contribute to that. Terraces at least let you jump about to keep warm and maybe give you more incentive to sing.
Another theory that i have posted before when this thread comes around at this time of year is the weather...a warm fan is a happy fan..the warmer it gets , the more we feel like singing.
Anyway, all is not lost. Theres a twitter campaign that i saw highlighted on facebook to get the singing going again. Its a group of fans who feel the need to stick in the disclaimer.." we are no way connected to the Brigantes"..that bit actually worries me.
Engineered singing, campaigns etc..wont work. Groups of fans that want to get together and sing WILL work, but only in unrestricted seating areas, and only if the fans who want to sing recognise the fact that not everyone wants to sing.

| Imo if you sing at the match it makes no difference where you sit you'll sing, all those people who followed like sheep to the east singing section liked the idea of being a singing fan but actually wasn't one.
Singing sections don't work and I've seen people on forums complain that little kids sing in the south, only on forums though from non match going fans who don't like the idea of a family section. Singing will happen but as previously mentioned cold weather and performances don't exactly inspire singing.

Why ?, if they said they were all 'formerly Brigantes' surely that would worry you ?

| I go along with the lack of consistency in the squad as a good point, but I've said for a while the two key factors for me are a decent away following to engage with and tense, meaningful matches.
Wigan proved last year that losing games is largely irrelevant as a top four finish was all that mattered. Whilst I'm not saying Wigan are intentionally losing games, for me it takes something away from the spectacle when you know a defeat isn't the end of the world and more significantly the players and coaching staff know this too. It's not their fault, it's the system which provides for only a handful of games every season with any excitement or significance.
Every week has to matter to stir up passions and emotions in supporters which then generates atmosphere. The atmosphere at the three home games so far has been flat, but then the games didn't matter in a competition that has 27 friendlies.

| The thing i used to look forward to when we was at home was standing up and signing and the players do respond to it. Being told to sit down constantly when i was at the back of the south stand was really annoying, obviously if you in the middle of the stand its understandable that it would annoy people behind you as they would want to sit down.
