Sam Powell's best game in a Wigan shirt. Just played himself into the WCC ahead of Logan there. Gelling went well at centre when he came on. We looked more enthusiastic when the younger lads came on. Scott Taylor immense again, his 25m run after being knocked loopy was awesome.

Tony Clubb needs to improve, we looked far better at 2nd row when Bateman came on, likewise at FB when Hampshire came on. Tough decision for Wane, does he play Bowen or Rocky in the WCC?

Looking forward to Powell getting more game time in the halves. He's so dominant when he gets the chance, controls the flow and has a clever kicking game.

How good are our kids? That was a great effort by them to turn the game round and lads like Hampshire, Bateman and Powell must have given Wane plenty of food for thought.

They were the big plus points from the night with the negative probably being our first half defence against the NW big men. We need to improve rapidly there or we'll get run over next week but you can forgive them with the jet lag issue.

All in all not much changes. We're up against it next week but you never know. We will certainly need our final lucky charm back in Lockers.

More dangerous with Hampshire at FB than Bowen, like I said after the friendly v Saints.

MW, It was probably the stream whatever that is ( I am a bit slow with those sort of things) but when I restarted my PC and logged in again the second half was OK.

The outstanding player on the field tonight was Sam Powell, he had a blinder. Burgess took his try's well but the big moment of the second half was Manfredi taking a kick through in his own 5yd area then brushing a couple of attempted tackles off then going 90 yards to touch down.
Taylor was easily the pick of the forwards, he was making yards every drive in with one special one when he was dumped very heavily on the back of his neck(was deemed to be a spear tackle) with his head slamming into the ground. The next drive he took up he scattered them, Bateman also seemed very sharp when he was on the field.

Bowen has been at one club for all his career. He's probably played the same attacking structures since Thurston broke into the first team. It's going to take time to get those instincts out of his head. Old dog, new tricks etc... He's class and I think it will start to show. I think the intention this year is for them to share that role anyway. Hampshire needs game time and Bowen needs rests. Tierney will probably get a few games too.

Powell has definitely consolidated the bench utility role for the WCC, unless SW decides to go with 4 forwards. Hampshire should be causing Wane a massive selection dilemma but I don't think there's any chance Bowen would be dropped for this next game.

Not sure if Thornley picked up a knock on Friday but I think only him, Lockers and Green didn't feature, so looking like the backline will be Charnley/Goulding/Sarginson/Burgess against the Roosters. Neither did much but it will have done McIlorum and Charnley a lot of good to get 40 minutes game time after not featuring much in pre-season.

I'm still not convinced by Tony Clubb, he seems to be carrying too much weight and isn't quick or mobile enough to defend out wide in the SR. I thought Bateman was excellent, though he played the last 15 minutes or so in the centres.
