| Quote: jinkin jimmy "I said before the season started that this squad was too young for me. Others earlier in the thread have said the same thing. There isn't even a silver lining because, again as has been posted, all I can see is further departures from the squad with even younger replacements coming through.
I agree with DaveO that a win next week will be despite a master plan, not because of one and I agree with Jimmy Birts and his desire to emulate Leeds rather than swallow the cods wallop about development.
Regarding this idea that we can simply switch on next week can anyone tell me how this happens? Do we suddenly decide not to drop the ball when driving in one the first tackle? Do we think, "right, I won't give any penalties away this week"?
Hull will have seen that last night and will be licking their lips. At least the bookies should be offering better value in Wigan now, and that is the only silver lining IMO.'"
In the CC Final and in the playoffs with a good chance of winning both trophies. The bigger picture with our young squad looks ok to me.

| Quote: Grimmy "We can't sign players of that calibre at present! Look at the quality of signings other clubs are making if you think it's just IL not sticking his hand in his pocket. We saw in '05 what happens when you sign second rate players (Vaealiki, Orr, Moran, Seuseu) just to keep the fans happy rather than giving the lads we developed a go (Wild, Brown, Robinson). Then a few years down the line your signings have been found out and the talented youngsters go to stagnate at lesser clubs. That was in a period when you could make top signing as well, now we can't even hope to bring in a Lyon or a Barrett. The best option is to do what we are doing'"
Nice to see that someone can hold their nerve.... M&S will be busy Monday, replacing all those twisted knickers...

That bigger picture only looks good if you hold onto them! We need to see this squad reach their thirties together, leaving us with Warrington's current situation in about 9 years time. Given our track record I have no confidence that we will do that.

| Quote: Last Son of Wigan "It's all part of the plan.
It's a 'race' for 4th between us and Leeds, sadly the race requires losing, from both teams.
No one wants to face Warrington, Hudds are the team both Leeds and Wigan want to face, didn't you find it bizarre Leeds lost to KR? It cemented 4th place for them... hence they play Hudds, which they will win, and walk on by. Leaving us with Wire, a tough game.
Wigan will hammer Hull next week, because they can and want to win the cup.
People will sing Lockers praises saying he turns the team around, Wigan could beat Hull with or without him if it mattered, and Cats for that.'"
The more I read about this lose to win formula just convinces me more about the complete ineptitude in the structure of the play-offs. For some strange reason I keep feeling that the fan is being short changed if the formula is correct.

Did you see last night's performance? That's what is driving most comments on here, the fact that as Wembley gets closer our form is worsening. And if anyone should be panicking, it's SW. He has a shattered, inexperienced squad on his hands with clearly no form whatsoever. That's what I see, what do you see, seriously?

I see poor form in games that have little or no relevance. I'm not going to get concerned until we are in a position not to win... thats not where we are. You panic if you wish, thats your choice, I'm just glad the team will not stepping over the whitewash with your attitude...

So I assume you didn't see last night's game....
If you want to assume the mantle of cool dude whilst painting me as Corporal Jones, that's fine.. With regard to the team's attitude, my thoughts are this. I can accept a coach resting players due to the nature of the playoffs, etc. what concerns me I will state again in the hope of a worthwhile response...
I don't see professional players taking to the pitch with a "don't care" attitude. I would imagine those lads are hurting today and wondering how they can turn things around next week. If our team are currently sat on a plane thinking the CC is in the bag (some, not you, are predicting up to 30 points in victory) then they are even cooler than you.

I watched all the game, and i was as frustrated as others here. I will leave you to do the "painting" of yourself and others... I don't panic, thats my nature, and i will judge the season when it's over.

In which case I don't expect to hear from you until after we are knocked out of the playoffs. I would like to point out, however, that you did paint many people with your M&S comment.

I'm worried about us in the short term, but not the long term. Our form is terrible but we are a good team which should be looking to win many trophies when we're a bit older and the key players at Wire and Leeds have retired/gone over the hill. Not sure whether Shaun Wane's the man to take us forward though. I'd probably give him the benefit of the doubt and offer him 1 or 2 years if we win the cup

Totally agree. We are a young group and there is a lot of improvement left in most of them. We need a couple of judicious signings in the backs to go with us not losing any more quality players then, as they get older, better and more experienced we should all reap the benefits. I actually yearn for a thread in the future when our rivals come on here winding us up about the age of our squad?

2572.jpg Ah, good taste!
What a dreadful thing!
Taste is the enemy of creativeness.

| something i have noticed that has disappeared off the playlist is the use of the full width of the pitch.
when we were playing well, we stretched teams by getting the ball wide, and then very quickly (often in the same play), returning to the opposite wing.
this exploited our strengths (which is very much fitness and mobility, rather than power), and opened up gaps that we could exploit.
recently weve tried to batter the ball down the middle, which with our lightweight back row is never going to work against a half decent outfit.

| I noticed Eddie H mentioning a few weeks that this new rhino rugby ball is like a bar of soap when the hands get sweaty. Is this having an impact on our handling ability? It looked hot in Catalan, maybe I'm clutching at straws and trying to rationalise the appalling handling from both teams yesterday and also in other games I've seen on TV?
Even if I'm wrong, I'm praying for an overcast day next week..
Believe in WIGAN!!! Let's enjoy the week and the build up.. I expect the performance of the season on Saturday.
