[quote="Headingley Rhino"]Great win yesterday at our place, there is no denying you are probably the best team in SL as you have proved it all year so I think it's justice done that you have got to Old Trafford. I thought wigan was excellent in the second half and showed why you guys are top dogs this year.: |
|
| Quote: WIGAN FOREVER "I was expecting a far closer contest going to Leeds this weekend as I really though they would be up for it, but after watching their performance I think they have major problems. It still won't be easy in the Challenge cup semi as there's nothing more dangerous than a cornered rat, but Warrington are the only team I think Wigan have to fear if we play our A game this season. They're on a slow burn so far but have plenty left in reserve and are probably the only team who can compete with us if we are on form.
The key word is form - No team can play at 100% every week and its important to peak at the right times. Things are looking good at the moment and we are rightly favourites for all competitions but there will be plenty more twists and turns before the middle of October. Out of all the contenders reckon Wane and Harris will be keeping the closest eye on Warrington and rightly so.
Once the Catalans games is out of the way I think we'll see a few players rested each week up until the cup semi and from next week on and it wouldn't surprise me if we only see the first choice seventeen put out for key games between then and the end of the season.'"
Whilst I totally agree I don't think were peaking early we played well against hudds and saints but IMO the game against leeds was as you say one of the right times to peak because of absentes I don't expect us to play as exceptional in upcoming games
Play well but not perfect game

I find it hard to believe that having people injured and/or suspended should have such a huge impact on a game. We had 8 players out that would likely have been among the 17 otherwise, but we still swept Leeds away with relative ease.. and that despite an avalanche of errors (penalties against us, fumbling the ball, etc). Forutnate for us, I'ld say, was the fact the Leeds made even more errors and handed the ball over, than we did. Slight lack of concentration from both teams, mayhaps?

If you don't bother to go to the game when you live in the locality then you are not really a fan and therefore your views are invalid. It's simple.:icons39ad_files/4821-1859san_c-msnicons.jpg |

In these salary cap days, it's fair to add Amos Roberts to that list. So 9
Probably for another thread, but add to these the players we have out on DR, the future is looking rather good. Teams are always in a state of flux, yes players will leave and players will arrive, and the changes to 6 - 7 are going to be crucial. But we are in a damn sight better place than most teams

Are they both still being counted against the Salary Cap?
They were missing then.

| If we are no longer paying Amos then I guess he doesn't count.
I don't understand the argument that Fielden isn't missing. He was a first team regular before he got injured and we're still paying him. Just because Wigan have superb strength in depth and have covered his absence doesn't mean he isn't absent. He is one of the many missing players that Wigan had to cope without against Leeds.

I meant neither would even be in the starting 17, they haven't played all season either, one isn't even employed by the club, just a silly thing to type

| They were both on the starting roster, and would both be strong candidates to play, if they were playing as they were when injured... Thats undeniable.
So they are missing/unavailable, from our plans at the start of the season.

| Back to "today's games", and it's looking very much as if Leeds will be outside the playoff places in another hour or so...
