Quote: ROBINSON "You've not read what I wrote, have you?

It will take a miracle for them to still be in the Premier League next season.'"

Quote: ROBINSON "It's worth Lenegan buying Latics just to get ownership of the stadium.

I don't care what anyone says, any soccer club that turns over naff all in gate receipts, struggles to attract sponsorship, relies on Sky money and is staring relegation in the face is worth................f@@k all.

Lenegan is astute, Whelan is bored of his plaything and wants rid. He knows it's over. Watch this space.'"

Yes i did. Its shown above and it is wrong.

If they get relegated, Latics' value will be low.

Sheff Wed was sold to Mandaric for £8m last year (well, technically for a pound, but he had to pay-off the Bank to the tune of £8m).

If Sheff Wednesday - a vastly bigger club, and with a much bigger stadium - are worth £8m, a relegated Latics would probably be worth £2m at best.

I don't think that would be out of IL's price range, despite the mutterings on Cockneymuppet.com that he is not wealthy. icon_lol.gif

Sheff Wednesday were in financial meltdown. Latics arent in the same boat as far as im aware. They will be worth less obviously if they get relegated but they wont be as cheap as people think.

Latics will also have the parachute payment money if they go down too.

I wouldnt be too sure. At the end of the 2009-10 season, the Guardian did an article on what debt levels were in the Premier League. Latics total turnover was £43m (of which £37m came from the TV pot) and their expenditure on wages was 91% - only beaten by Man City. Their only saving grace was that of the £73m debt, they only paid £900,000 in interest, largely because their debt is to Whelan. Even then, they posted an overall loss of £4m.

The parachute payments are now over 4 years - £16m in Y1 & 2, with £8m in Y3 & 4. Notwithstanding, that leaves a £21m shortfall in Y1, which can only be made up by cutting wages and selling players - something that any potential new owner is going to consider when making an offer.

The debt being to Whelan is the key point. Theres no debtor there that will call in their money and close them down. Half the squad will be instantly off contract if they get relegated anyway.

That wont be an issue though as most of the players will leave any way if they get relegated so theyd save a lot of money there. Tbh if their fans would stick around if they got relegated they may be better off. Its cheaper to run a Championship than a premiership club. The problem is I suspect they'd be stuck in the Championship for years if they do get relegated. And their manager knows what he is doing and I have a lot of time and respect for him so if they are still in so much poop with him there I dont think they will be getting out of it. Oh and if they are bottom come new year or boxing day whichever it is I believe no team has ever been there and survived yet. I seem to remember someone may have done it about 3 years ago but dont think so.

When Maurice sold me to Leeds something changed, it just not the same, the passion inside me just wasn’t the same as running out at Central park for my hometown club. We need a change of culture here; we don’t want to be just happy with playing ok on Saturday at St Helens. Ill make sure that from now on things will change, that players will be under pressure and will train a lot harder than they have before. WBA did it on the last day of the season a few years back. Tics have a habit of scrapping it on the last day.
