I think its time for Mellor to take that step up, he will have the experience of Finch, Lockers, Leuluai and Sam to help him. Its time to take a risk on him because the the positives of it working out for us massively outweigh the negatives if it doesnt.'"
Isn't it his original positon?

I don't think so. I thought he was always outside Marsh in the U20s

| Quote: NickyKiss "If the season started next week I think we'd see Leuluai at 7 and Goulding at 3 tbh. I can't see a new coach getting too many you g kids in straight away or trying players in new positions even if it is Wane. He'll give plenty of lads a shot over the course of next season but they'll have to bide their time initially IMO.
We'll go something like-
Tomkins
Charnley
Goulding
Carmont
Richards
Finch
Leuluai
Fielden
McIlorum
Lima
Hansen
Hock
O'Loughlin
Subs
Mossop
Prescott
Hock
Farrell
I think Micky Mac will be asked to play long minutes at the start of the year but eventually guys like Mellor and Logan Tomkins will come in to the mix.'"
2 Hocks are better than one i like your thinking

Lenagan has stated after tomkins going "We've looked around rugby league and there aren't really opportunities to get a centre of the right calibre to come to Wigan at this stage.
"We could go to Australia and get a middle-grade £100,000-plus-a-year centre but we don't want to do that.
"We would rather give young English players an opportunity. Darrell Goulding, for example, will get his opportunity again and Josh Charnley is another potential centre."
No world class centre replacement then

Your not wrong! Ha.
Replace one with Lauaki. He's Hock mark II anyway.

Looks like Dudson, Flower and Lauaki are our lot for the year. Worst off season strengthening ever?

On paper, the worst re-strengthening in recent times was at the end of 2009, when we only got Deacon in after being poor for most of the previous season - and look what happened then. Other than a few people who go regularly to watch the U20's/U18's, most of us have no real idea what the talent is like in these teams, so we can't really judge whether the players coming through will strengthen or weaken the side.
The current management set-up have seen as right over the last few years & have earned our trust on this. It's not like a big name centre from the NRL is a guaranteed success anyway - Vaeliki for starters. If we did sign someone on a 100k+ a year contract it may prevent us from being able to keep talented youngsters, which is exactly what we all criticised previous regimes for doing.
The big challenge is 2013, when Finch, Carmont & possibly Leuluai all go - if the young players don't step up this season, we may well see 'big' names coming in this time next year. My hope is that this doesn't happen, as I think the current 'grow your own' strategy is the right one.

I would love him to sign but leave a top 3 NRL side for us is unlikely he was born here but by the sounds of things he grew up in Australia so I doubt he's actually going to be that interested in coming. I would love to eat my words though!

He played in the Yorkshire League 4th division or something similar 2 years ago, and was considering joining Keighley. How many more are there out there who, with some encouragement, opportunity and good coaching could smash their way straight through?

| The only way we'd have a chance of signing Reed would be if his Brisbane contract is as low as you'd imagine it would have been at the start of 2011 and the Bronco's have no room under the cap to offer an increase. I'd imagine he'd have been on a very small contract at the beginning of this year as he wasn't a member of the Brisbane squad.
If as an example he's on 20-25k a year there and could get 100k a year here you could see him being interested especially considering he could do a couple of years with us, increase his profile and go back on a big wedge when the NRL salary cap goes up.
All fantasy at the minute though.

| Leeds are sniffing around Reed at the moment, but nothing doing, he's very unlikely to leave the Broncos.
Go with the kids, we are promoting loads of them at the moment. It might be tough for a year or so, but if you pick the right ones and persevere with them it will pay off.
