Start by getting rid of these two clowns
This whole debacle wouldn't be an issue if we had one man back in charge at Red Hall
Someone who loves the game as much as we fans do and would do his upmost to help all clubs prevent RU slowly bleeding Super League dry of successful youth academy products by the amount of money they can offer in comparison to our Salary Cap crippled sport.

BUT for his 'I want to play at Wigan with my Mates & not go to RU anytime soon' crap only in MARCH.
Seriously disappointed in him. I don't blame him for taking the money & lifestyle. I'd do the same - honesty - but i don't like being lied to.'"
This.
If all of this is true I'll be very disappointed. If we continue losing our young players like this how much of a future does our game have?

Of course money plays a large part, but who the hell really wants to play in a recognized international match at Leigh fecking Sports Village in front of 5000 when you can play in London, Paris, South Africa, Argentina in front of guaranteed sell-outs and get column inches in the national press...
Once you get past the Grand Final and Challenge Cup (which JT has one in the last 2 years) this game offers our players absolutely naff all...

It wouldn't be an issue because we wouldn't have a sport to call our own. If he was still in charge at Wigan, you wouldn't have a club to follow

Hang on a minute. Only a couple of months ago your own Chairman was defending the SC. I agree that it needs to be raised, but by how much? Don't forget your own club is only turning over just over £5 million a year.

| Putting club bias aside, this is seriously worrying.
We will get a transfer fee as he's contracted, but it'll be scant reward for the effort we put into raising him.
God I hate the RFU.

| I really wonder what Sky make of this - they are funding a game which is stagnating, with the same clubs on top year after year, a second tier of competition which is slowly dying, a comical international setup and any young talent groomed to move to another sport which they also fund, with the gaps filled by journeymen imports. I guess the next round of tv rights negotiations will reflect this; nevermind Eddie and Stevo reckon that standards in Super League are improving every year and "going through the roof".

I'm not talking about him being in charge at club level though. Just think he'd be actively doing his very best to help clubs stop talent leaving for RU if he was in charge. Lewis and Butterball are probably to busy back slapping and fiddling their expense accounts at the minute rather than trying to help Wigan keep Joel.

Im not buying into the salary cap has ruined rugby 100% but i think it should of been regulated better. Expanding the cap is not the answer when all clubs are spending so much of their existing cap on overseas signings. Super League is flooded with Aussies and Kiwis, IMO when you go to watch a game there is no reason for there to be more than 8 overseas players on the pitch, 4 from each side. The % of the cap that would free up would be frightening especially at a club like Wigan. Carmont Richards Finch Tommy Lima Hoffman and Amos Roberts this year must of taken not far from 40% of our cap space up if not more. The money is there to give these english lads a better wage from a younger age. Lets look what we can do closer to home before we jump on the its ALL the RFLs fault.

| As others have said, I wouldn't blame him for going for the money and the fame, had he not stated his intention to keep playing for Wigan and not go to union. To come out with that b******s and then leave after signing a long term deal definitely tarnishes my opinion of him. Of course he isn't the first and he won't be the last to do the same. Surely now Sam will follow him, I can see this becoming the norm once a few more young players go; start your career off in league where a team pays thousands towards your development, then get noticed by a union club who'll throw money at your league club to buy you, knowing full well that the league club can't utilise that money because of the salary cap. A transfer fee is of little use if you can't pay a player appropriate wages. We are at a stage where we COULD see our best English players playing a different sport, how ridiculous is that? Something needs to change, clubs need to be rewarded for bringing through young players, if you want less overseas players then make it easier for clubs to keep young English players.
