| I think anyone on here who used to frequent the Griffin when a certain Mr Boston was the landlord may disagree. A true legend

That ball should have been kicked into touch or maybe even a drop goal attempt to wind down the clock, but oh no Gary have some cunning plan to give the Aussies the ball back. They duely responded by big Mal going over with seconds to spare. Nob head!!!'"
He did kick it into touch didn't he? Might be wrong, but I'm sure he did.
As for the dg, he didn't think he'd get it. And if it had failed the ball's still in play, as in kicking for the corner.

33718_1325770967.jpg Games as big as Grand Finals define individuals and clubs. Remember, we only rent these journeys. In my time I had Pat Richard's shirt. Ellery Hanley had Sean O'Loughlin's jersey. Sam Tomkins is wearing Radders' number one jersey. Andy Coley is wearing Shaun Wayne's jersey. You have to make a mark in these shirts before you hand it down to someone else. Hand it back. So be aware for 80 minutes that you are not only playing, but you are also writing history and creating legacy. How many people actually write history - not many? A big stage demands big players…..INSPIRE YOUR TEAM MATES.

I'm not sure what points these two posts are meant to convey. Do you mean to say that running a pub is a fitting post-RL "career" for legends such as those?

It used to be very common some years back. Mind, the pubs in those days used to be packed out, not like today.
Eric Ashton used to be a sales rep for Wilsons IIRC. Billy had the Griffin. Bill Ashurst had a pub. Even an ex-wire player had the Royal Oak bottom of Standishgate near CP. Didn't Andy Greg have a pub ?
It was a way of bringing in punters by way of their celebrity, plus you wouldn't want to cause any trouble in their pubs.
To be a pub landlord was quite respectable years ago.
For the older fans, Ken Gee had a pub at Pemberton for many a year.

I see no controversy in ex-players running pubs, but I see total comedy in Gary Schofield doing it.
Can't you just picture him behind the bar in all his cheap, tatty jewelry, with a trophy cabinet in pride of place - containing only one Yorkshire Cup medal - offering his views on everything that's happening in the world, and all of them stupid and wrong.

I just think it reinforces our "small time" image in comparison with other sports when top flight internationals end up working on a building site or something similar.
