I think I'm hoping it for very different reasons to you!

We've seen the insightful reasons that some of your fans have given for wanting Waney to get the gig as you think he will fail.
They range from
He's ugly, He's a Meathead, I worked with him when he was a Rep (What the hell that has to do with anything is beyond me!), he has no tactical brains (How the hell you lot would know that is staggering but I suppose he could never hope to have the Tactical intellect of Saintsfan).
Personally, I'll have a little bet that IL decides to give it to who he thinks is the Best available (Or possibly become available with a tempting offer just for DaveO ) man for the Job as I am sure he wouldn't want to undo the good work the club has done over the last 3 years or so.
If that's Waney that's good enough for me, 2 years under Madge and 4 successful years at 18/20's level is pretty good grounding in my book and if Madge/IL think he's the man that'll be good enough for me! Only time will tell if they/we are right but there's only 1 way were going to find out. Picking the right number 2 will be critical!

| The more I think about it, the more I think it might be too soon for Waney and he needs to serve another few years as a no.2 with another NRL coach in the way Madge did before he stepped up at Wigan.
Basically I think we should move heaven and earth to get Tim Sheens in as the next coach. He's off contract at the end of the season with Wests. We need to move fast to secure a top quality replacement as I expect the Whinos and Widnes to start throwing big money about to get a top coach for 2012.

You may well be right fella, but recent history suggests that getting in a promising/experienced NRL coach is the way to improve a side in SL with very very few exceptions.

The point I was making is that there are a number of Saints fans "Hoping" Waney will get for absolutely ridiculous reasons when they have no idea whether he would or would not make a Good 1st team coach.
I haven't much more inside info on his abilities than anyone else but I wouldn't be coming on here spouting that he'll be the next Wayne Bennett either just to make it look like I know something I don't.The honest answer is no-one will know until the person chosen is given 12/24 months in the job.
I'm just saying it's quite simple, if Madge/IL (And I think IL will discuss with numerous sources not just Madge as he has always taken on info with his previous appointments) think he is the right man then I think that will be a pretty good endorsement? There is certainly no incentive for either of them to make the wrong choice?

I'm finding this thread interesting given that I imagine Leeds will be competing with Wigan, and possibly Bradford, Hull and Huddersfield (Brown back to NRL) for any available top coach. I imagine the Wigan and Hudds jobs will go to Wane & Anderson in an organised succession. But there's a coach from the NRL who might be available soon & used to play for both Wigan and Leeds...& fwiw I think he might be coaching Leeds next year.

Furner?
Helps to avoid the sack, when your boss is your dad.

It does indeed.
But if Canberra's form continues, then his dad might have no option. But he has been a promising coach over the last few seasons, and if he gets into the position where he is "moved" he'll need to rebuild his reputation, just like Nathan Brown did. I don't think there'll be too many who wouldn't take Furner over McDermott, Agar and possibly Wane. He can even bring his dad along if he likes.

| According to todays Daily Mirror, Lenagan has stated that a decision about who will coach Wigan from 2012 will hopefully be made in the next 6 to 8 weeks.
Does this period of time suggest applications are being invited & interviews may be taking place?
Surely if Wane was to succeed Madge it shouldn't need that length of time to appoint him.

| Quote: WarriorSteve "IMO its simple. If Wane thinks he is ready to take the job, then IMO give it him. He has won championships with all the teams he has coached either as head coach or assistant. If he feels he is not ready and would like more time as an assistant then IMO we should look at someone who is happy to carry on in the same manor that MM has started. The last thing we need is a Brian MAC type situation that is happening at Leeds.'"

Why rush it?
Whilst myself and many others want Wane 2 get the job it would be majorly foolish for IL not to open the role up to see who goes for it.
Who knows who could apply.

| I hope if IL is to give the top job to Wane he tells him if things dont work out he can go back to being wigans assistant. The one thing that concerns me is that if things dont work out..we simply sack him and he leaves the club.

Is it Shaun Edwards - 6 to 8 weeks - when the kick and clap season ends ?
