| Opening weekend fixture in a 30-40K stadium would be just about right imo. Somewhere like Bramhall Lane/Carrow Road/Villa Park

| IMO i'd like it scrapped, i dont like it at all. If we insist on having a weekend like this, then i think it should be something like a 7's weekend, a proper party like atmosphere and some fast enjoyable rugby. Just a fun weekend without any pressure.

| a weekend of derbys would be a good thing but murrayfield is the wrong location. with the exception of wigan v hudds, not really any mouth watering clashes his year. the rfl need to downscale it, seeing an empty staduim is not a good advert. keep it up north, the reebok when bolton aren't at home or elland rd. much more suitable venues. create the atmosphere with big games and the fans will come. neutrals want to see big games, but this year it hasn't happened which is why so many have stayed away. the concept is good, just needs tuning.
wigan v saints
bradford v leeds
cas v wakey
quins v cats
wire v hudds
salford v crusaders
hull v kr
all at elland rd ( or similar venue ) id buy the ticket

| I'm inclined to agree with the last couple of posts, but like the event when I'm there.
That's why I think merging a couple of ideas other people have had is my preference... use it for the last 8 of the Challenge Cup instead (and also bring in the City of Manchester Stadium double header semi final, if we can get the venue or something like it) and hold it somewhere with a passing interest in rugby league with decent potential for future expansion... for that reason, London and Paris are my preferred venues for any future event.
Plenty of stadiums to choose from in both cities, and both are far more accessible by multiple methods of public transport. From my nearest railway station (Preston) I could have got to Paris faster this weekend than the only available options for getting to Edinburgh, via Manchester and York with 3/4 changes of train.

Why should we have to play Saints 3 times? Why should they have to plat us 3 times? The only way its fair is to draw the games, but as we have seen with this year there are no particularly big games.

never said anything about it being an extra game, why not work it in to the calender rotating who loses home advantage each year. and as for the big games.... get real....wire/saints v wigan, leeds v bradford, hull v kr are big games, of course your lower teams upset the apple cart every so often but we're talking about selling a rugby league event. the crowd this year shows that big fixtures are what is needed if this type of event is to suceed. MM has been a let down with fixtures that haven't exactly captured the imagination of the neutrals. a rugby festival needs to to have big games, whether its an extra fixture or not is open to opinion. bums on seats is what judges it a sucess.

I agree big games are needed to sell the even but it dont think its fair. Like i said, id like it scrapped. The crowd was poor but better than i thought, no where near what we should be getting.

dont get me wrong, i would love to see 26 games, home and away against each team. for this event to succeed on a fair level it either needs to be incorporated into the fixture list and have the derbys played that weekend or do what other posters have suggested and bring the super league teams a round later into the challange cup and have a knockout weekend. the concept is good, but it just isn't working at the minute

I reackon it would be better if it was incorporated into the regular fixture list, then you could have derbies and they would be fair. If they continue with it, then i hope they go back to Cardiff.

| I'm not entirely convinced the fixtures have that much effect on attendances, TBH. For myself, and a lot of people I've spoken to, it's a combination of the transport & accommodation expenses and the time away (not so much the match ticket, which is a pretty good deal).
If it was closer to home, so that it didn't involve an overnight stay, the crowds would be much higher, IMO, irrespective of the fixtures.
