4486_1428087820.png Newsnight 13th May 2010: "With the role of Deputy Prime Minister a non-job. Has Nick Clegg gone from King Maker to tea maker????"
I kept the faith and I kept voting
Not for the iron fist but for the helping hand
For theirs is a land with a wall around it
And mine is a faith in my fellow man
Theirs is a land of hope and glory
Mine is the green field and the factory floor
Theirs are the skies all dark with bombers
And mine is the peace we knew

| Its a cracking idea to sell out a whole stand even at whatever discounted rate the companies have got them for.
We have 25000 seats available, and approx 10,000 of those are taken for each game by ST sales.
So why not offer family & corporate tickets at heavily discounted rates for the less attractive fixtures? Every discounted ticket sold is a bum on a seat that would otherwise remain just a seat. Even if 95% of those bums do not reurn, 5% may do, and they will fill an otherwise empty seat at another game. Eventually, there will be 15,000 ST holders.
The only "losers" may be the ST holders who work for the companies involved, but I guess they would still get a ticket anyway and give it to a friend/neighbour who may not have otherwise attended.
The more we can do to get the town behind us this season, the bigger the rewards will be next year, particularly if football continues to price itself out of the market to the casual watcher family - two adults & two kids to watch next Wednesday's fixture at the DW would cost me £70 miniumum!

39110_1363272058.jpg Dropkick Murphy..we actually saw and heard a mass of bouncing and scarf and flag waving to Dale Cavese that drowned out anything we could muster.. It stopped us singing our own celebratory songs, it died out seconds later when we accepted we couldn't be heard over the Wigan lot
Celebrations muted from us, job done from them. Most fans who slag them off are jealous their own club's support is nowhere near that good

sally cinnamon..Why not discuss Wigan? It's a rugby league message board. Wigan are the most famous brand in rugby league
-
Tre Cool..Saints fans are hopeless unless it's a cup final or grand final. Wigan fans are so much more loyal and passionate
-
the flying biscuit..Wires havent been massively succesful over the years, but I've spoke to Brian Bevan And he spoke to me and i wouldnt swap that for Wigans History, ever

Ande..on the TV i could only hear the Wigan fans with about 10 to go

| So 14,000 tickets have been sold two weeks before the game, so how many more will be sold over the next 2 weeks. If we beat both Salford and Sheffield it should be up there with the Leeds game. This game has actually sold more tickets at this stage.

| Im with Cruncher on this one. Its remarkable what lengths some people will go to, in order to put a negative slant on things.
Last year with the Noble / Kearney / recruitment / sponsorship situations I could understand, and was a part of several "negative" threads and debates. I cant comprehend what is to be negative about this Worthingtons/Heinz deal for the Quins game.

I'm not even getting into it. I can only see positives.

| Clubs all over super league give away free tickets. Where the problem is with this is converting into getting bums on seats. Couple of years ago quins gave away free season tickets to every registered amateur player in London/south this had little impact on attendances and lots of these FREE season tickets where left unused. Where I do believe Wigan are good at is getting these people to come to the games.
Where this situation is different is that the ticket haven't just been handed out willy nilly they have been purchased by our major sponsors and a lot of work will be being done promoting this game to their employers/business partners. Even if half came it would still see the North stand with more people than Leeds/Hull/Wakey brought with them!!! People who are in charge of marketing etc are concerned with increasing revenue streams and they need to be applauded in the work they are doing at the mo.
This game normally attracts 12-13k but we could realistically attract 16k+

They are not free tickets though, they have been purchased, the club is making a profit as well as getting bums on seats.

Wasn't saying that these tickets were free - the point I was making was that the sponsors have purchased the tickets and the marketing team need to be applauded in getting four thousand ticket sold whether cheaply or not increasing the revenue for the club whether the people who have these tickets turn up or not. But people at the club with the sponsors will be working hard at promoting the game.
How the sponsors distribute the tickets is upto them. However if they are giving them away to their employers/business partners then they are free tickets to the people who receive them and as such may lead to not all thousand turning up to the game how many we do see turn up is yet to be seen.

I think it was 4,000 in the North stand last year. Last year the gate was pushing 15,000. This year it has sold almost as many 2 weeks before the game. I can't wait.

| The best thing the club ever did during the Uncle Mo & Whelan era was to actually let kids in free in the North Stand for a game against the London Broncos - now Harlequins. I took a few of my mates to that game and Wigan slaughtered them 66-6 IIRC and now a few of them are season ticket holders.
So initiatives like this do work. The fact they have actually been purchased though is simply even better.

| When I said I think its:
- a negative idea
- a shat idea
- a useless idea
- the marketing team have given up
- the marketing team need to pull their finger out
- we shouldn't be giving freebies out
- we should play infront of st holders, walk-up fans + away supporters
I do no know!
I was actually suggesting I THOUGHT we may have sold a few more (to casual supporters - not st holders, or a local business).
I was actually a little disapointed that we hadn't sold more. I fully appreciate its a hard job to attract casuals to (usually) non-entity games like Quins! A applaud the Marketing team for the work they do! They're the best in the buss

Well I thought we had already dismissed that they were being given away was wrong so be precise to keep everyone happy - what is wrong with hoping for more than 14K (i.e. the 10K season ticket holders + 4K at £4 a head)?
I am sure you knew that is what was meant anyway
