| Quote: Wandering Warrior "Latics wont last much longer in the premiership anyway
Latics won't go down this year but next year could be a different kettle of fish altogether.
In reality there were only two relegation places this year with Portsmouth bringing new meaning to the phrase 'utter shambles'. Burnley did their best to help out Latics, Wolves, Hull City etc. by signing Championship failure Brian Laws. Next year there will be at least two clubs with money back in the Premier League and tight- Whelan will see his Latics sniffing round for bargain basement players with Blackburn (currently 11 points clear of Latics), and two from Wolves, Hull City and West Ham.

| I read an article somewhere that said the groundsman didn't blame the rugby or football for the condition of the pitch and it was actually the location that was the problem. Apparently there were still sewage tanks still left underneath where the pitch is and they are leaking gasses that kill off the fibre in the special grass, hence whyt every year it has needed to be resurfaced.
It will probably be a long time before this gas is totally exhausted, if it ever will be, and so bar digging the pitch up to take the tanks out (which can't/won't happen because of there being no time in the year to do it), the pitch is always going to deteriorate.
I can go with this version above others because of the amount of vents around the ground to help release the gasses, it is obvious they knew about it before they built the stadium, they just thought it would go away.

Maybe we could convince some of the Latics numpties (the type that post on COCKney Latic) to club together a few thousand pounds, to get one of these "companies" to come and remove us?
Be funny watching them try to shift Feka/Coley/Prescott (and even little tommy could give them a nasty nip)
Or even better, just pre-warn the company in question that the request is coming, and have them accept the money as a "tip" for giving us a giggle at the idiocy of some Latics fans, before telling them "Sorry, we tried everything, but you're stuck with the 'Peanut Huggers'".

The ground would have never have been built over Sewerage tanks they would have had to be cleaned out and removed. I think what you are getting confused with are the vents all around the ground area. These are to exhaust marsh gas as the ground was built on a very marshy area of Wigan hence the cheap price that was paid for the land.
As i have said before the problem is grass does not grow between October and April (the football season) Most top PL clubs have sun lamps to fool the grass into growing and the top 4 or 5 in the PL like Man U have sun lamps that slowly track up and down the pitch to give an even growth.

| I was only quoting an article done with the DW Stadium's Groundsman, why would he tell that story if it wasn't true?
I have do not doubt that grass doesn't grow as quickly in the said months but if you go to the farm up at the top if Gidlow Lane, they sell and grow grass all year round without the aid of sun lamps.
Anyway back to the point I was trying (unsuccessfully) to get across, it is the groundsman that said this, not speculation, hype or anything else.

Then maybe all football teams should employ them ( the farmers from the top of Gidlow Lane).
I do not know why they should tell a story that could not be true it is beyond me.
All i know is that you would not be allowed to build a stadium or any building on old sewage tanks without removing them first. Not only does sewage produce methane gas that could build up and explode if not vented. But during this process actually reduces its mass so causing subsidence. Anyway no point getting into all the technical details it was possibly something said to excuse the poor drainage that was put in.

| In fact there is an area in front of the tunnell that was mentioned. It has sunk over 18 inches since the ground was built and has been packed up with extra earth to get it level, apparently when the undersoil heating is on in winter, you can still see the frozen patch that exists there due to the heat not being able to get through as effectively. I guess this adds further weight to the article being more true than most of the rediculous theories that have been spouted in the past.
Like you said though, neither of us are experts and I know I can't be bothered wasting my time researching what is right so I'll leave it there.

Where did i say that i said i cannot be bothered in going into all the technical detail that is totally different.
And as for the tunnel area has sunken 18inc then there would be a cavern forming under the west stand. So its a good job it was built on a raft or the ground would have its safety certificate removed by now. Then there is the under soil heating if its true then the pipes for the heating have sunk the heating would not work as pipes would not stretch 18in without cracking. I would love to see the article in question and see who wrote it because if this is true then i will be calling for a safety check on the West Stand as that is where i sit and would not like it to collapse while i am in it.

| Did you miss the 'in front of the tunnel' bit i.e. pitchside, not 'in the tunnel' or 'under the Springfield Stand'!!!
I would have to assume that the foundations of the Stand are quite safe, it is the ground in front of the tunnel that subsided around that depth in 11 years.
What's with the melodramatic 'If this is true then i will be calling for a safety check on the West Stand as that is where i sit and would not like it to collapse while i am in it.'
I will go through my history to try and find said article so you can chase the author instead of me, OR if you are going into a panic about it you could ask the groundsman, as it was supposed to have been him that was interviewed.
