| Quote Codarmysaint="Codarmysaint"I love these "Rugby league produces far superior players and thats why RU want them" threads.
Pretty much every British player who has gone to union has failed by a long way with the exception of Chris Ashton. I dont care about Henry Paul winning club man of the year and Pan face getting his token england cap due to the amount of money they paid for him
You know why? British rugby league players are way behind their union counterparts in terms of the necessary skill sets for backs.
This aint 1994 anymore'"
Ignoring the two England rugby union internationals you've mentioned, what about Jason Robinson? He did ok didn't he?
Shontayne Hape is doing well and recently got a call up to the England squad. Lesley Vainikolo has impressed at Gloucester and has played for England.
Brian Carney, Chev Walker, Iestyn Harris even BJ Mather won international honours after making the switch.

I suppose you don't care about Jason Robinson or John Bentley either. Not to mention Wendell Sailor and Lote Tuquiri. Iestyn Harris didn't do too badly either. Then there's Shontayne Hape...
Of course I could go on, but instead let me ask you this; do you think the likes of Inglis, Slater etc would succeed in the other code? What about our own Kyle Eastmond? Maybe Keiron wouldn't have been a success either, eh?
The bottom line is a player who was no more than 'a prospect' in league is regarded as the best winger in the English game in the other code. Take from that what you will.

| maurice did well to get rid of ashton,he was a big head who beleaved in his own hype,as was sean long, bobby goulding, all great players but maurice beleaved they would do more harm to the club as an whole, you can be the best rugby league player in the world but if you have a negative influence you can ruin the potential of the rest of a great team.

thats a crazy comment. Attitudes can be coached and managed, so can morale. Its all about leadership. If the coaches were not upto the job then they should have been shipped out not world class players.

I think you will struggle to find a world class player with no ego, some are worse than others though. I suppose it depends on the coach as to whether they want to work on that attitude or not. Doesnt mean they are bad coaches though if they dont want any disruptive influences.

That is not why Ashton left. It was about money - he was offered a lot more in RU than salary capped Wigan were prepared to stump up for an 18-year-old. And that's the end of it.
As for Ashton's attitude, I think you'll find that complaints about this only began to manifest when it became clear that he was leaving. In that respect, he wouldn't be the first player killing time before his contract expires to start dicking around. Andy Coley was accused of it at Salford; Henry Paul was accused of it when he was leaving Wigan for Bradford. However, it has to be pointed out that neither of those two had the poor grace to actually pose in another club's shirt while they were still officially at their former club. In that respect Ashton did himself no favours at all (though I bet he isn't particularly bothered).
