| Quote: DaveO "No it wouldn't. That's just a cliché. You can learn form your mistakes but it's better not to make needless ones on this scale.
My concern is with a big game coming up V Hull it will have boosted their confidence no end and done ours no good at all. After all chucking away a 20-0 half time lead and conceding 22 unanswered points is a pretty appalling performance.
Dave'"
Dave of course this is a possibility. However, how much of a motivating factor would it have been for Hull to be the first team to beat Wigan this season and claim a 'scalp'? I believe that Hull are a better all round team than Bradford and by the end of the season we will be closer in the league to them than Bradford. By this logic we are better off losing to Bradford than to Hull. I believe that Wigan will play better against Hull as a result of the loss than we would have done otherwise and if we go ahead against Hull we won't be complacent about it as we may have been otherwise. Unless of course we are unable to turn things round and lift ourselves after a loss, or the coaching team are unable to make the changes necessary to prevent us making the same mistakes, in which case we are in no better position than we were under Noble and your posts so far this season suggest you don't believe this to be the case. I genuinely think we will get a big kick up the backside during the week and throw everything at Hull, we have put in some good performances this year and a really poor half doesn't change that.

| As Nobby said it's how you finish, not how you start that is important.
Hopefully the result will have 2 effects:
1. Ensure the Wigan players don't believe half the cr*p that is posted on here about them being "fantastic".
2. Shut some of the "MM can do no harm" brigade on here up.

| I was also a little disappointed in MM's comments about how Wigan managed to throw away a 20 point lead.
"Matt Orford can burn you....."
What???!!
I'm sure he can, but the reason Wigan lost was on account of themselves, not Matt Orford.
Concentrate on the lack of intelligence, discipline and professionalism in your own camp Maquire, not on the skill level of the opposition.

You've taken what he said completley out of context, perhaps you need to read again what he said.

Or perhaps your suffering from selective reading of his comments.

| Orfords try on the last tackle was as soft a try you will ever see. Wigan just switched off. Top teams dont concede try's like that. That said, im sure it wont happen again and I still stick by my top4, even top2 prediction for wigan.

Nobby was wrong then. And if he's still coming out with such idiocy, he's wrong now.

He was very wrong and basically used that line as a cover up for an obvious inabillity to get his sides motivated early on in seasons.
During Nobles time with us it was his biggest weakness imo and what eventually led to his downfall. We always finished the season well but come the final eliminator game we'd be out on our feet and it always proved to be a game to far. If we'd have started a season under Noble how we finished them we'd have been top 2 and more then likely have made a couple of finals.
I see no reason why this Wigan side can't start this season well, have a good middle and finish it strongly. We're a mobile side with a mobile pack that imo will get better as the pitces firm up.
We're bound to have a couple of blips at some point but i'd rather have them with points on the board then starting the season off with them.

| Better Wigan had this wake up call versus Bradford.
Lets hope your players take it out on their next opponents

So in one corner we have the most successful coach in the SL era expressing his opinion.
In the other corner we have a faceless internet poster expressing his/hers.
Hmm....let me think for a second which opinion carries more weight with me...

Rubbish, as far as I was aware Rugby League in general is about entertainment and giving the fans value for money. Tickets aren't any cheaper for games earlier on in the season and therefore teams have a duty to the fans to provide that entertainment by performing on the pitch. Nobby's argument is also wrong in that the position you finish in the league is important when it comes to the playoffs, playing more games makes the players more likely to be tired and underperform in the matches that matter. If we had gone on to win the Grand Final or even got there the first part of my argument would be less important. Besides if the earlier games didn't matter why didn't he use them to get some young lads in and get some experience rather than risking injuries to the older players and having to rely on inexperienced ones when it mattered.
Nobby's was a tried and failed philosophy so I'll take the opinion of the 'faceless' posters above thanks very much.
