He would bleed cherry and white and although i appreciate that is not enough alone, wane also is a successful reserve grade and junior coach.
If they never get their opportunity how are they supposed to make the grade.
One thing he would immediately have is the respect of all the players who have come through the ranks as most of them will have played under him at some point or other.'"

Part of me is unsure about Wane and I hope it isnt the cheap option, its a hell of a risk and given IL doesnt want to pay off coaches if they fail, his length of contract will be interesting.
If it is Wane he needs an experienced assistant ala John Kear with Raper.'"
To be honest I think if we do appoint Wane it will not be because the club feel he has "earned" it or "deserves it" - it's more likely to be because we have failed to get our targets and no-one else is available.

| My first choice obviously from my sig would be McGuire, for me something were missing is the adoption of modern day techniques that he would undoubtedly bring, yet Wane has his plus points with his strong affinity with the club and the respect he commands from the players.
Ideally I'd like to see them both as 1 and 2 and as some suggest it may be the only way to get McGuire here would be as a number 2 on the face of it but head coach in reality.

How dare you think that! You will have a certain poster after you saying stuff like that.
If Wane gets the job then i suspect it will be a one year contract and he will be told to earn a new one by IFL. Not that it will matter mind you as his replacement will prob be signed up a week later

IMO we should leave Wane alone. He is doing a fantastic job with the reserves (just look at the amount of players who have come through the first team) and I believe he doesn't want a full time job.
Leave Wane alone and let's get a more experienced coach in from the NRL or a new exciting young coach from the NRL.

What do we do if we can't get anyone though?
I would say it is better to use someone from within the club rather than go to our second, third and fourth options. If we have Mcguire in mind then we should get him at all costs.

One year contract would suggest wigan do not have the faith in him.
It should be a 2 year contract with an option of a further year. The club have got to show faith.

| Wane was exclusively a prop IIRC. I don't remember him being a star, but he held his own well enough.
I don't know enough about his technical ability as a coach to comment on his suitability.

| BrettKenny has a good point here.
Quote: XBrettKennyX "Wigan is the biggest club side in RL and we need a big coach. Next year we will be competeting against sides coached by Mick Potter, Tony Smith, Brian McClennen etc. We need to compete with this knowledge and experience. I don't want an Aussie "prospect" coming over hear and learning his trade, I want the finished article.'"

Well its pretty obvious IL has been looking overseas and so I tend to agree.
I would have been quite happy if Wane had been given the job on a caretaker basis with Noble sacked half way through this season but as head coach full time? Not so sure about that.
As a caretaker I am sure he would have put a rocket up the team but I thought the consensus was we needed an NRL coach who had modern ideas to impart?
We also risk losing Wane from the job he is doing so well. We lost a great servant in West when he was inevitably fired and he did a great job for the club behind the scenes prior to being full time coach. Some people are more use to the club out of the limelight of the coaches job and I think Wane falls into that category.

| When there were rumours earlier in the year about him taking over as caretaker, allegedly Wane said he was happy staying as coach of the reserves as a full time position would take up too much of his time from from family/work commitments?
What's changed since then?

No arguments there. I wouldn't mind seeing Wane as assistant coach to someone really special from the NRL, but I don't think he's ready for the top job just yet.

| i dont no how we can have apinions on someone we dont no much about like maguire. He must be 3rd in demand at melbourne behind bellamy and kearney. We talk about people from nrl like there supermen theres nowt saying maguire will be any better than wane as he wont no any of the young lads proper and they are going to be very important next year if we are going to even make top eight without any signings whatsoever. Also when we do get a new coach who really makes signings? owner or coach. I dont care if we got wayne benett with that set of players again we will struggle we need a balance of youth and experience and i think were we really need improve is the front row obviously and we need good fb phelps is good squad player and trys very hard but im sorry hes not good enough if we want to win cups.I think warrington was laughing all way to bank when we bought gleeson he is just overated and lacks motivation for me and were stuck with him now and were was the sense in giving some one like roberts a 4yr deal when we have good kids and it no good saying give then time all the time. farrell radlinski edwards all played when they was good enough not when over a certain age they have either got it or not.

I would not be hard for Wane to improve over Noble in several areas IMO but the assistant coaches linked to us have been working under top NRL coaches so the idea is they have new idea and ways to do things Wane won't know anything about.
If Wane wants the top job fair enough but let him be assistant for a while to someone form the NRL. I still think he is most useful to the club doing what he does.
