It has not been a special job at Warrington, it was ready made for a coach to come in and do a good job. Turning England around is a different matter which is a lot harder and is why I will judge him on that.'"
You do know we lost about 10 in a row before smith came in?

39110_1363272058.jpg Dropkick Murphy..we actually saw and heard a mass of bouncing and scarf and flag waving to Dale Cavese that drowned out anything we could muster.. It stopped us singing our own celebratory songs, it died out seconds later when we accepted we couldn't be heard over the Wigan lot
Celebrations muted from us, job done from them. Most fans who slag them off are jealous their own club's support is nowhere near that good

sally cinnamon..Why not discuss Wigan? It's a rugby league message board. Wigan are the most famous brand in rugby league
-
Tre Cool..Saints fans are hopeless unless it's a cup final or grand final. Wigan fans are so much more loyal and passionate
-
the flying biscuit..Wires havent been massively succesful over the years, but I've spoke to Brian Bevan And he spoke to me and i wouldnt swap that for Wigans History, ever
-
Ande..on the TV i could only hear the Wigan fans with about 10 to go

That line was not the only one in my post, read the rest of it and you can clearly see my point.
He is a good coach but many other coaches could of done the same, it was no amazing turn around you have great players already.

You're talking as if their players are world beaters! Sure, they have some household names, but man for man, they aren't a side that would seem a major threat to anyone.
You've ignored my point about Leeds. A direct comparison. Fan base, Stadium, money, players - guess who turned it round after 20 years? Tony Smith.
Its apparant on here that Wigan were fortunate to get rid of Mathers, and your fans seem pleased with his replacement at full back and wouldn't swap him. You have taken the GB centre AWAY from Warrington, clearly weakening them. Micky Higham was surplus to requirements at Wigan, so thats another reject.
Quote: Odemwingie " It has not been a special job at Warrington, it was ready made for a coach to come in and do a good job

Complete and utter disrespect for a coach like Tony Smith, and I'm glad he never landed at Wigan and you've wasted all that money on Noble.
Unlucky

"Any Coach" doesn't go in and turn a club around
As a Leeds fan I have great experience of this. We used to be very much like Warrington. We chucked money at everything. Finally in the 90's we assembled a fantastic looking squad, Alan Tait, Richie Eyres, Ellery Hanley, Garry Schofield, Gary Mercer - the only thing missing was a "great coach"
Bearing in mind we had already failed under Mal Reilly (who had a bit of success with GB and won an NRL title in Oz) we appointed Doug Laughton, who had broken Wigans dominance (as you should well know) with his great Widnes side.
He failed miserably
It takes a great coach to turn around a big ship thats sinking, and Tony Smith is just that, no matter how your club bias comes into it'"
I dont agree. Look what Jimmy Lowes did when he first took over from Cullen, ask any Wire fan if they think Lowes is a good coach
Wire are a good team waiting to happen, look at their playing squad, Morley, Carvell, King, Monoghan. Then Riley looks like he'll be a good 'un, as does Tyrone Mcarthy. Harrison is going great stuff
I'm not doubting smith's ability to coach, but it will be clearer after the "honeymoon" period is over just how good a job he has done.

One things for sure, he didn't win them the Challenge Cup at Wembley.
As if Lowes is a patch on Smith as a coach BTW

| I think Tony Smith is a fantastic coach. Look what he's done with Mathers, he couldnt break wind at Wigan and at Warrington Tony Smith has basically saved his career, I wish we had Smith as our coach.
Some of the attitude from Wigan fans has embarrassed me today, its like they are turning into Wire fans with the bitterness. Warrington played a good game, and it was Smith who won it for them. From 10 losses in a row at the beginning of the year to a win at wembley just a few months later (they didnt have an easy route either) is incredible. Albeit their league form hasnt really seen much improvement but with 10 losses at the beginning of the season it was lost already so they threw all their eggs in one basket and it worked.
They will either go one way or the other now, they will either end up like Hull FC few finals here and there but not really threatening to take over SL or they could end up like Leeds, they have the talent there, will be interesting to see if Myler can take over Briers when he eventually leaves.

I would not mind Warrington being at the top of our game for a while, it would make a change to st helens or leeds but I can't see it. This mentality of 'we don't care what happens cause we won the cup' is not how saints have become so succesful.

Yeah they could go 2 ways like i said but who knows...we will only find out next year, full pre season under tony smith and the confidence of winning the cup behind them they should push on, no excuses!

Good points. And yep, Smith might just be a "kick start" for the club. They might not be title challengers, but I tell you what, Tony Smith can certainly make average players into winners, so he doesn't need much to work with (look at Chev Walker, Mark Calderwood, Ryan Bailey, Richie Mathers, Andrew Dunneman; under Smith - I rest my case)

BTW, this is the same Smith that won us the world cup right? imo his tactics for the world cup where well off.

The honeymoon period? He's just won Warrington the Challenge Cup. I doubt anyone connected with the club cares if they don't win another game all season. There's 2 major trophies on offer at the beginning of a season and he's won one of them.
Oh and judging him on the International scene is pathetic jealousy seeping through your skin. The British game is in a mess as well you know. Do you think us Leeds fans disregard the Championships and World Championsips he has brought us just because he's not Jesus and couldn't miracle up some wins against the Kiwis and Aussies?
Have a word with yourself!
