| He was excellent from what I watched of the game. His inter play in attack is excellent. Far better than Pat Richards when he was at fullback. It comes of no surprise that with a settled set of backs we start to see better performances from them all. Finally Noble has got out of the habit of switching players round for little reason and we have also had luck with injuries.
Pat Richards has improved for me moving out on the wing. He looks far more dangerous taking the ball forward than he did previously. It was great to see him take his winger on (for a change!) last night as well. He is quick Richards and should have the confidence (that Sean Ainscough has) to back himself sometimes down the wing.
Back to Cameron Phelps he still has areas to work on and improve on. But with the rest of the season at fullback under his belt - a full pre-season with Radlinski I think we will see continued improvement from Cameron Phelps. If he could tighten up his positional play and support play he will be a brilliant player for Wigan.

| He has been brilliant but I would still hope to get Briscoe as soon as he is off contract.

Briscoe really wants to come back to Wigan and we should never of let him go in the first place, but I guess we had no choice. Phelps is brilliant but Briscoe can come back for me.

An interview when he said he would like to play for Wigan again. He may as well of just phoned IL and told him he wants to come back.

This may be an option forced on Wigan due to the Quotas coming down by which point we have to decide if Cameron Phelps is worthy of a spot.

Another reason why we should probably get Briscoe back. The more spots we can fill with home grown players or English players the better we will be IMO as we will be able to select overseas players more easier.
Briscoe is far better in defence than Phelps and is much better at backing up. Every time we make a break we will score as Sam and Briscoe would always be either side of the person with the ball.
Briscoe may not join the line and be as good in that area as Phelps but Phelps can also play 6 which is why that area of his game is better than any other FB other than Greenshields. Briscoe can still do this but just not as often as Phelps.
I just feel in 2 years our quota spots will have to be filled by players like Barrett, Renouf and Pat. I hope Phelps turns out to be world class and in that case we would obviously keep him.

That on the BBC site?
He said that maybe one day he'd like to head back to Wigan.
I used to go to School with him and the was speaking to him a couple of years back when he was leaving Hull. He told me then that he would go to whichever club offered the most money as he needed to look after his young family.
He gave the impression then he was quite settled in Hull.

| Josh Vievers will replace Phelps when we can't afford the quota spot.

| Quote: Last Son of Wigan "Phelps seems about 50/50 on his catches and positioning. he's dropped catches in nearly every recent game.'"
2 things though:
1. Cameron's missed/dropped catches are nothing like 50/50. More like 80/20 maybe, which is acceptable BECAUSE.....
2. How many of Cameron's dropped catches lead to knock-ons ????
A. Not many, because as was pointed out earlier, he knows that this is something that needs working on, so the first work he has done is to make sure that he faces his own posts.
He is a VAST improvement on Mathers, and IMO is much better than the previous encumbant of the position (Ashton).
He shows a lot of enthusiasm for the team and would be my first choice for the No. 1 shirt next year.
As to the quota slots - I would let most of the other imports go before Cameron.
If I had to choose 3 right now, it would be Cameron, Pat and George. (And yes, I know that Pat is "Irish" and George is Samoan)

I agree, I feel a little sorry for Vievers in all this, every time I've seen him in the reserves he always stood out to me, his versatility along with his kicking game and all round fullback game is superb, if there was perhaps one down side to him it might be his pace, but that never affected Wellens, for me the kids definitely worth a giving a go.

| Phelps has been brilliant since he went to Full back. Ok hes not looked safe at times but how many mistakes has he actually made??....hardly any!
Overall hes a good player. He is tidy at the back and makes few mistakes. His link up play in attack has helped our attack improve leaps and bounds. We had been poor going forward for so long. Even when Barrett was here it was a bit one dimensional but now weve got different options and teams are struggling to read our plays.
Him and Sam T have got better and better game by game and look more comfortable week in, week out. Phelp's deserves his one year deal and if he keeps this up next year he will get a longer term deal. He has a great attitude, is 100% commited to the cherry and white and is willing to put his body on the line.

| The only other fullbacks i would have from the league over him are Greenshields, Briscoe, Hodgson and Webb. He's in the top 5 (IMO) throughout the league and thats a massive turnaround for someone who i was wondering why we even offered him an extension for this year at the beginning, keep it up Cameron. Player of the year already for me.
