| Frank Puletua is a great call to replace Gareth Hock.
Personally though I don't think we need to be searching the NRL to bring in too many overseas players. What is wrong with the group of Wigan lads we already have? We have the best reserves team in the league and a fantastic crop of youngsters coming through. Why not invest in our youth like Saints and Leeds have done?
Why should we look to find a new second row forward when we have - Lee Mossop, Liam Farrell, Mark Flanagan?
I think Lee Mossop is more than capable of filling in for Phil Bailey next year and Liam Farrell eventually for Gareth Hock.
We already have Joel Tomkins and Harrison Hansen or maybe even Sean O'loughlin if the coach decided to swap Joel and Lockers around as some are suggesting.
Even at prop forward I don't see why we need two prop forwards. We have Feka, Fielden, Prescott and O'carroll (pressuming we got rid of Coley) I would agree that we would need one more forward and perhaps loan out Eamon O'carroll and start next season with NEW prop Feka Fielden and Prescott but with another prop forward I feel Prescott would be excluded from the squad along with Eamon O'carroll and there goes two promising young prop forwards. In fact promising is a bit of an insult they are two good prop forwards.
Why not just look to bring in one prop forward to replace Coley and loan out Eamon O'carroll.
So next season we have - New prop, Feka, Fielden and Prescott (O'carroll on loan)
Then when Fielden is off contract bring back Eamon O'carroll and have - new prop, Feka, Prescott and O'carroll. If we decide that this is too lightweight or that one of O'carroll and Prescott doesn't quite cut it then we can bring in another prop forward and at least say we gave them a chance. Rather than just excluding both props when they were starting to get a decent run in the side.
I also don't see where a fullback would come in. We would have to get rid of Phelps, so lets say we do - we would have Roberts, Richards, Ainscough and a new fullback. That would most likely lead to Sean Ainscough being excluded from the side. Why lose such a promising talent?
I agree that we need a new halfback but I don't see where one fits into the side.
We have:
Leuluai and Sam Tomkins at six and seven.
McIlorum and Riddell at nine.
Leuluai has just signed a new three year deal, Riddell is here for two more years, Sam Tomkins you would hope that we would keep here for the next five years and McIlorum you would also think will be kept. So where does the halfback fit in?
People suggest moving Leuluai to hooker but that would give us three hookers - how can that work?
Also suggestions include loaning out McIlorum - why? He's shown how he can change games for us this season. Just replay the Hull KR match if you need reminding. Why let other teams benefit?
The solution for me would have been not to have signed Mark Riddell or Amos Roberts on such long contracts. Roberts signed for four years and Riddell has signed for three. We should have recognised the talents of Sean Ainscough and Sam Tomkins & should have planned forward to include them in the squad.
Now we are in just one big mess IMO and I haven't even mentioned the coach!

But what about Mark Riddell, Amos Roberts, Harrison Hansen, Paul Prescott and Eamon O'carroll?
I doubt they would be pleased as just squad players. Especially Amos Roberts and Mark Riddell.

They need to prove they are better than the players who I've selected over them. If they do so they will get in the team.
Competition for places is a good thing. Builds desire and a better work ethic, something I think the likes of Riddell is lacking.
It's not a fun club, only the top 17 performers get a game, simple.

If only it was that simple. I don't think under the salary cap we could afford - Minicello , Gleeson, Tronc Fielden, Roberts, Riddell - all players who would be earning six figure salarys. (Plus the other prop forward you talk about).
Also would they all fit under the overseas quota?
No more than 6 overseas trained players :
Pat Richards
Amos Roberts
Mark Riddell
Minny
Tronc
Feka
Carmont
And the other prop forward you mention would have to be British. Not many OOC prop forwards of a high quality available. In fact scrap that there are none now that Andy Lynch has been signed.
That's before I even mention the barmy idea of moving Lockers to scrum half.

Thank you, the obsession with signing Aussies/Kiwis is killing me.

I agree but outside of the NRL are there any real Props that fit the bill available? In other positions i think we will be ok, but upfront and unless we manage to sign Myler as a 7 i think the only options we have are overseas sadly.
It is great to see us linked with Jordan Turner as well as looking hopefully to promote from within.

No.
If we sign a 6/7 then he will be the one to miss out. Loan is therefore the best option.
I agree regarding Hock/Bailey - lets do that in house with Mossop/Farrell/Hansen/Joel.
We need a top class prop to replace Coley and a top class halfback to play with Sam.
Beyond that we have enough players who can make up a team that can compete.
If we could find someone who would buy Riddell & Goulding even better but I think we will struggle in that dept.

Why? McIlorum has been the better hooker and a far more consistent performer than Riddell. Why should he be isolated from the squad for an underperforming Aussie? What kind of culture does this set for other young lads in the team? Why should we let other teams benefit by loaning him out?
Madness absolute madness.

Im not saying its right and I sure as heck don't want it to happen, but if anyone believes if we signed a half that Riddell would be the one to miss out, they are kidding themselves.

Well then why when it's obvious to the fans - do people think the management wont see it this way? Oh and then back them if anyone says a word against them.
I don't think we have any room for a halfback in our squad - unless Riddell was released. McIlorum and Sam Tomkins don't deserve to be axed and Leuluai neither - but he is not a scrum half.

But we need one, we wont win anything with Tommy at 7, once again the club recruitment policy looks bizzare, why give Tommy a new deal if Riddell is staying, someone has to miss out, because we need a halfback.
The ideal situation is Riddell becoming homesick but thats only likely if an NRL clubs wants him.

| I know we do not need him but would have loved to see Cooper Vuna play for Wigan, one of the most entertaining players there are, shame about his injury as the lad is a beast and signing him to any club would be a massive risk because of this.
As a project i also think he would make a great centre, but do not think we can sign overseas projects, all our overseas players need to be an asset to the team straight away.
