| Quote: meast "Again i ask, why is averaging 9,486 pathetic?? Would you not say that considering that for the last 40 years we had struggled to attract even 1000 supporters to games, considering the lack of success we've had in the last 50 years, coupled with the fact that 2 of the most succesful clubs of the last 20 years are on our doorstep thus attracting the floating supporter, considering that even 4 or 5 years ago we were struggling to get even 4 or 5 thousand do you not think that by doubling our average that it should be applauded? Or are you just going by how many supporters we bring to wigan on a friday night? Remember the licence criteria is based on home support not travelling support
Look at the three teams you have played at home though:
Bradford - 9,774
Warrington - 8,567
Leeds - 10,116
Those are very average attendances indeed, especially when you consider Warrington & Leeds would have made up a significant amount of those crowds.
I'd say you're only looking at 5-6K home support if that, in addition to the "cheapest season tickets in SL" and the fact you're a regular Top 4 side these days! Pretty shabby if you ask me.
If your average remains at 9500 at the end of the season, then yeah it's an improvement, but until you have played Quins / Catalans / Crusaders - then I wouldn't read much into those numbers.

| To be fair most clubs have 'ways' of boosting the average attendance. The Big One, Heinz buying out the North Stand being just a couple at one club I know.

Correct. However, the same club also manage to obtain 23K+ versus St. Helens and 19k+ versus Warrington regularly paying full price.
In addition 13,680 v Crusaders, 12,001 v Catalans with a van load of supporters for each ain't too bad really.

| The biggest worry for Quins was the amount of season ticket holders that didn't bother going last night. I'm assuming that the official attendance of 2.6k would have included these. It must have because there was no more than 1000 in the ground. So 1600 ST holders, out of say 2000-2500 absent !!! Maybe i'm missing something.......

| Quins also provide a focal point for league in London. There's a growing youth and amateur game in the London area that's finally beginning to pay dividends in London-born players getting through to the Quins first team which, long-term, will increase the England player base. Take Quins away and those youngsters have nothing to aim for. Having said that, I've never been so worried about Quins' future as I am this season. They need to improve things drastically and it's not playing in Twickenham that is the problem. Last time they were there, in the old Broncos days, average attendances were way up on what they are now. It's all the subsequent moving that shattered the work they were doing and I agree with the RFL that they have to stay in one place long-term and build an identity.

No, I meant Catalans could do with one too. Crusaders are close enough to Wigan/Wire/Saints to get a decent traveling support every so often.

| As a Quins fan - a lot stayed away last night because they are sick and tired of the dross on the field week in week out and the only hope of the club listening is walking away for a SKY game and leaving just a few there. We have absolutely fantastic expansion work going on all around London and it has the biggest growth of any team in SL. We have kids coming through the ranks that had never heard of RL 5 years ago. The southern development of RL is second to none in this area. However we started the season with a major player who didn't come back from Oz. Wells, Purdham, Temata, Orr, Dorn, Ellis all seniot players and all out injured before the season even started. Wells has since retired through injury, all the others are still out and to add to it we have had three minor players out injured. This is not an excuse as a number of fans believe the better players like, CLubb, LMS, Melling have gone backwards. We had 5 players knocking on the door for England, Melling, Clubb, LMS, Orr and Purdham and I don't think any of these players would get a look in now. Time for a new coach, the office staff have got things on line and moving along, the team of talent we have is good local talent maybe the coaching has something wrong somewhere. It will work itself through - all teams have bad patches and this is ours. We are in SL because we have never finished bottom of the league and are able to show the best expansion of any team in the league. Give us a break and don't forget you all live next door to each so travel to each others games in large numbers which helps to swell your crowds. On a plus side the team did well last night against a very on form Huddersfield and we saw some of the long lost thing called passion.

Averaging 9,486? When? You averaged less than 8k last season didn't you?
I do applaud your club's hard work in increasing your attendances from very poor to below average.
I just wouldn't be casting aspersions on London or any other side if I were you.
Some of the excuses you come up with would work better for Quins by the way, they have a lot more competition for the attention of Londoners than the Giants do for the attention of the people of Huddersfield, after all.

If only this were true. Unfortunately there are many clubs with low levels of travelling support.

He's talking about the first 3 home games this season:
Bradford - 9,774
Warrington - 8,567
Leeds - 10,116
Ok crowds but look at the opposition they played. Should be more than that.

Thanks. That suggests they may struggle to match last season's figures.

Bradford don't take many. They've still got Hull, Hull KR and us to come. After that they'll be relying heavily on home numbers.

Look at that Leeds crowd. Ten thousand?? I'd say 4,000 were probably Leeds fans for a local derby!
