| It could well be that the salary cap is not too much of an issue for Salford at the moment. They must be below it by some distance as i doubt they were at the cap last year and since then they have only lost their best and probably highest paid players. So they may be able to offer more for one player than other clubs.
The issue would be going forwards if one player takes up so much of the cap, how they would make a balanced trophy winning side in future years, without cutting that star players wage?

| I'm still doubting this was a genuine bid and not a publicity stunt but even if it was it smacks of a team trying to run before they can walk. Salford signing 3 or 4 superstar players would be all well and good but if you blow your budget on them you'll leave yourselfs exposed in other areas IMO.
They need to take their time and build gradually. It's impossible in the age of the salary cap to turn a team from wooden spooner scrappers to top dogs in a few months. This project could take them ten years and they'd be well advised to look at Wire for some advice on how to do things. They've built their current squad over many years and have had to be patient to finally get to the top (of the league yet the big prize still hasn't been won).
If I we're Salford I'd be going out and targeting real solid signings and exciting youngsters rather then ready made superstars. Go and bid for guys like Kirmond, Huby, Bridge, Bateman, Daryl Clark, Dan Sarginson etc because they are realistic targets (although they'd still probably have to pay over the odds) to take the side up a level.

Australia coach Tim Sheens could take up a post in the Super League after the World Cup.
Sheens is keen to get back into club rugby but hopes to lead the Kangaroos to glory at Old Trafford in November before considering his options.
The 62-year-old, free of club commitments after his departure from Wests Tigers in September, said: "I've made it clear I will be looking to coach again, whether that's in Australia or England.
"I will have to see what might be available but all my focus at the moment is on preparing the national team. I don't want to take my eye off the ball."
Sheens was recently reappointed for a fifth-term in charge of Australia, as they look to regain the World Cup from New Zealand.
"I've made it clear I will be looking to coach again, whether that's in Australia or England."

| Not too sure about Sheens tbh. Tigers fans couldn't wait for them to get rid. He's got some pedigree obviously but still, not sure.

| What is Wane doing so wrong that some are hoping to bring Sheens to the club? If Wane had an Australian accent would people have more faith in him.
Wane is overseeing a long term project at Wigan moulding a young team into a champion team. He needs at least 2 more years in the position before we can even start to assess his future and quality as a coach.

What a dreadful thing!
Taste is the enemy of creativeness.

agree. i also think that WHEN we look to get a new coach, we should be looking at younger coaches who are hungry and able to exploit new ideas, rather than guys who have been doing if for nearly 30 years. Its not the Wigan style to go for ancient coaches. Nobby was the exception rather the rule - an old head needed for a specific job (which he did well).

| Wane is cheap. He's not going for overseas players and he's putting the young lads in. Wane's doing well considering its his first time at the top job and that we've got such a young team with a lot of injuries. He's not costing Lenegan a lot of money so whats the need for Legenan to spend money to bring Sheens and the players he may want to bring in?

| I don't understand any talk of Wane potentially leaving the club. He's kept the club ticking over since Maguire left and has had to deal with numerous players leaving. He hasn't been perfect but he like his young team is still learning and we need to show him plenty of patience.
I'd give him a new deal now tbh but I'd expect Lenagan to take his time and wait until the back end of the year before putting anything on the table.

To be fair, with the rate our best players are leaving (and not being replaced) I wouldn't be surprised if Lenegan did accept that offer.

If you don't bother to go to the game when you live in the locality then you are not really a fan and therefore your views are invalid. It's simple.:icons39ad_files/4821-1859san_c-msnicons.jpg |

| We still need that bully, and experience in the pack if we are to do anything this year. At the back end of matches teams are getting on top of us and their older heads are bossing our lads.
A Pongia style signing would be a welcome addition at the moment.

| Wane is a big fan of Bailey, but doubt Leeds would let him go.
