| I kind of agree with both sides here. The club lied to the fans, they said he signed a 3 year deal when he hadn’t. Perhaps it would have been more sensible to say he has agreed to sign a 3 year deal once Wales’ involvement in the RUWC has finished.
That said, IL & KR have taken a club legend and someone they know personally at his word. A person who is clearly now having second thoughts. He’d be having the same thoughts if he had signed a contract.
I don’t see the point in having a coach who’s not sure he wants to be here, it’s time to move on. Either give Lam (if he wants it) & the team some stability and give him a 2 year extension and the chance to develop a squad to suit his style of play or start the search for a replacement ASAP.
I thought today’s statement was professional and dignified, they must be fuming behind the scenes. Although disappointed with them I still believe IL & KR are the right people to take the club forward.

| Quote: Cruncher "He's not far off the same position you're in. He's been trusted with some unique information, and if he spills it on here, it will be obvious to his contact where it has come from and will be seen as a betrayal.
I don't blame him for sitting on it at the present time in the hope that at some point soon the club themselves will speak out.
Personally, I don't know why the club don't just give their side of the story right now ... unless they still feel the situation with Shaun Edwards can be salvaged, in which case they won't want to get into open slanging matches in the press, which might make things irretrievable. I wouldn't want him now - the standards in British RU are unimpressive when you look at the NRL, plus he's treated us very badly - but maybe IL and co feel they were too far along the line with him to just back off without making an effort.
I don't know. Why don't we wait and see what happens next?'"
I'm sorry but not trolling here but you are comparing rugby union standards to the NRL and not what super league has become. I know rubbish players getting paid or free beers at terrible levels in union. Yet league teams especially at amateur level take a hell of a lot from their players wages, which are more often than not great. Just think the analogy is wrong

| Quote: ChrisA "Apologies for quoting myself. My thoughts are still the same and have been confirmed now, IL has shown faith in Edwards apparent commitment to coaching Wigan. I guess he thought that after all this time away, to make the decision to come back, he would have been 100% committed and felt comfortable with a handshake.
Clearly IL has been left to look like a prize clown. While it's easy to state the obvious about him not actually signing, it's Edwards that has created all this, because his stock has risen. Even had he signed, there would have been union people with money sniffing around.
I'm not going to spit my dummy and say I don't want him to come, I do. What I want more though is a quick resolution, so whoever the coach is can start to plan for next year.'"
I agree with everything up until the last paragraph. Edwards has made IL, KR and more importantly Wigan and RL look like a total amateur bunch of nobs, Rugby Union must be wetting themselves laughing at us.
For me he obviously doesn,t have coming home top of his list of priorities,so as such IL should stop being dictated to by the egotistical little sh**house, withdraw the offer and lets go our seperate ways. Who is to say that a few months into his first season somebody from Union might not knock on his door and waft a wad under his mercenary nose and off he goes leaving us in the cack again. I would no longer trust the guy as far as I could throw him.

100%
Why drag this out? How could he possibly become our coach now even if he decided we’re worthy? I do not want him anywhere near the club and how it still seems to be very much ball in his court is just beyond me.
Effort needs to be going in to finding a new coach and the half a new team he’s going to need. Moves for good players (not just scraps that are left) will be getting made now and we need stability and for potential new recruits to know who the coach is going to be.

| Lenegan doesn't need to apologise to anyone because he owns Wigan. Fans are only consumers...but unfortunately you can't go elsewhere. His way...like it or lump it.

Regards EW'"
I agree the club cant let it slide while he rests under the palm trees on some sunny isle, hes had more than enough time and to me doesn't want to come a deadline has to be set and the sooner the better for the club, players and its long suffering fans.

Agreed, it's as simple as that.
IL and KR have massively dropped the ball on this one.

Here here.
How any Wigan fan can stand by and champion IL after this is beyond me. Supposed top businessman parades Edwards around the pitch and hypes up across all media platforms that Edwards will be our coach in 2020 without a signed contract?! Then in over 9 months fail to produce a contract for Edwards?
Are we now also meant to forget the whole Bateman debacle were IL told us he's coming back after 2-3 seasons as our marquee? Which later Bateman dismissed as false.
Bit of a pattern here Mr Chairman.
No matter what anyone thinks of Edwards, if IL had have ensured he'd signed we wouldn't be in this big embarrassing public mess.

| Just f*** him off.
If the joint statement had said that both sides were sorry for any misunderstanding, but that now the 6-Nations is over Shaun will come and sign a contract within the next fortnight, then fine. Leave it at that.
To say that basically we HOPE that he will still want to come, but given that Wales won the 6N, his stock has gone up and we are leaving him free to explore other possibilities and won't stand in his way if something batter comes along ?????
WTF ?
We should NEVER be, and most certainly should never ACCEPT being someone's fallback if nothing better comes along.
It should be a case of - Come and sign the 3 year contract, as discussed, within 2 weeks or F-Off.
If he is not committed already, to the point of simply signing whatever is put in front of him (provided it matches what was previously offered), then we should withdraw the offer and walk away.
Sorry if anyone takes offense, but asyou might be able to tell, I feel pretty strongly about Edwards using us to get a better offer in RU.

| The trouble with Wigan we are a one man band with IL as the sole owner we desperately need to co-opt more people on the board or put the shares out to the public with 51% majority and let the shareholders have their say on how the club is run .KR is an ex player and not a business man and should not be in this position of running the club.IL has put his trust in KR to run the club for him IMHO he is doing it badly.

| I agree with all that Pie-eyed said except the last sentence. Edwards doesn't need Wigan or RL, to get himself a better deal. But spinning this out saying you want more time to think? After all this time? That's just taking the pee.

| I agree that he doesn't need us, but it's much easier to force someone's hand if you can use an existing - and VERY public -offer to get more money and set your own deadline.

Yes they would.
He doesn't want to be here - he'd have got out of a signed contract too.

And as consumers, we were misled in the 2019 Season Ticket sales pitch, where pictures of Lam & Edwards were used in the club's marketing campaign.
If you pay for a Ferrari and take delivery of a reliant robin, you'd be back at the garage forecourt pretty quickly.
IL had form for claiming contracts had been signed when they hadn't (Bateman), yet allowed himself to "slip up" again with the claim that Edwards had signed a three year deal. Millionaire businessmen don't make that kind of mistake once, let alone twice. I no longer have any trust in whatever comes out of his mouth.

But at least we would have been due some sort of compensation, and been made to look like the good guys, instead of a bunch of lying amateurs.
