Quote: Wigan6/Leeds1 Andy "The captain was the dumbest of them all.

Shocking leadership and discipline last night - awful. Needs the mother of all bollockings this week.

Without John Bateman this team would be 2006 all over again.'"

We are as bad as 2006 we just haven't got the bottom of our true form yet.
I genuinely wouldn't rule out us being in the middle 8s.
Can you imagine relying on Crosby, Mossop, JT, Smith, Sarginson and co going to Leyth and having to win to avoid the drop?
Personally I wouldn't play any of those guys again this season even if it meant we had to borrow some lads from Amatuer ranks.
SOL is a busted flush. The club know this but behave like ostriches.
A totally clueless club who have got what they deserve with their negative attitudes, lack of morals, woefully poor work ethic, total lack of basic management skills and reliance on clipboards and statistics.

I don't think our outside backs are terrible: Charnley and Manfredi haven't turned into bad players overnight, Gelling is a threat to opposing defences, and Gildart shows promise and is certainly worth sticking with (his error which led to their second, was it, try, when he tried to flick it back from the side-line to Charnley, showed his inexperience more than anything else. And the awful pass itself from Sarge, was it?).

But yeah, we need at least a couple of decent props and a good half who can lead us around the park. And modify tactics on the hoof in a game if things aren't going as the coach planned. I've remarked before that the top NRL sides do in fact very much play in this 'traditional' style. If you watch a team like the Cowboys, they have props in Tamou and Scott and Hannant with great go-forward, two gifted play-makers in JT and Morgan, and outside backs who aren't considered the superstars of the comp by any means, but who get the job done.

I don't think things are *quite* as bleak as Itchy paints them, but I do think our league position flatters us and agree it won't be maintained if we keep this up. Opposing teams, some of whom seemed beat in the past before they'd even stepped on the pitch, will no longer fear the DW as a fortress.

I've never left a game before the final whistle before last night (albeit only by a couple of minutes); it seems a bit daft when you've had a six and half hour long car journey to get here, but I did yesterday. Many who'd been sat around me were long gone (and it wasn't a deodorant issue, I assure you).

Quote: Itchy Arsenal "I don't think there is a Specsavers in Orrell but there is an opticians in Pem where I suggest you book an appointment.
Without Bateman we are a bottom 2 side. We are absolutely useless across all positions.
As I said earlier with all the away games coming up I just can't see a win in the next 5 or 6 games and that includes Leeds twice.
We have got nothing and I mean nothing to offer.
For the first time in my life last night I wanted a team to really finish us off and stuff 50 or 60 on us just to emphasise how dire we are. The first time we play Hull, Warrington or Catalan and they hit something like decent form they will put 50 on us without getting into top gear.
This top 4 nonsense and aspirations of a GF is wishful thinking there is no logic to it if you believe what you really see.
Can anyone really believe that if by some miracle we finish 3rd or 4th we are going to go Warrington, Catalan or Hull and actually win with this boneless shower?
Get real this team has been on a decline for a number of years the problem is have we reached the bottom yet or will the decline continue? My view is once teams realise just how poor we are they will look forward to giving us a good hiding and we will descend down the table which will reflect our true position.
Any team that contains players with work ethic of a sloth like Crosby, Mossop, MM, JT and Flower together with a half back who has nothing and add a pinch of backs like Sarginson, Gelling, Gildart and Tierney who can't catch, pass, draw a man or kick then you have a team of middle 8 calibre then add a nonentity of Isa a busted flush in SOL and it's a total rebuild time.
I have already decided not to renew my ST for next year unless there are major changes in personnel and style of play.
SW has got to change his attitude and look for help but he won't. Radlinksi should already have a short list of potential new coaches but he won't. IL needs to put his hand in his pocket to replace the majority of the first 17 but I don't think he really cares but by the time next season comes around and ST ticket sales have slumped he might just wake up to a dose of reality.'"

No need to get personal, only time will tell who needs to visit Specsavers.

What is the point of having decent wingers if they never ever get any decent ball where they have some space and/or time to work with? You might as well put a "middle" out there and be done with it and we will then have "tough" players all over the park.
Manfredi should be our go to player and I don't think he has had one decent pass all season. What a waste of talent.
Gildart has promise but still relatively unproven and hopefully he will develop into a good centre.
We are an awful bunch of players.

Where do I start with Sarginson and Tierney other than saying they aren't rugby players?
Gelling can't pass but that doesn't seem to matter anymore. Yea gods a centre who can't pass you couldn't make this up.
Crosby and Mossop should just be paid off or left to rot. Both are totally utterly useless and its an insult to use "prop" when stating their position. An odd game where Mossop makes some yards doesn't mean he has good form it means his shoite displays are marginally better than his usual yellow displays. If Crosby said he would go tomorrow to Aus I would honestly pay his one way fare and if he would take JT with him I'd chuck in a few beers for their journey. JT has done zero since his return and basically is robbing a living.
I'm amazed at how patient Wigan fans have been for the last 2 seasons when we have had zero entertainment and treated like an afterthought in fixture lists. A club that appears to be oblivious to the shambles that that surrounds every facet of the club.
I was a SW fan but his time has come and gone unless he has a Saul on the road to Dasmascus experience in the next few days which is as likely as any Wigan "middle" being capable of playing more than 15 minutes at a time at some in the near future.

I think you can add Gildart to the can't pass brigade.
Can't argue with anything else you've written unfortunately.

I nearly did mention that about Gildart but at this point I think and hope that he deserves a little more time before I put him the the can't pass category. My brother in law is in your camp with regards to Gildart.
I actually missed off Smith from the can't pass category but I think that's because subconsciously I have him in the he isn't a rugby player category or at least he isn't a halfback or whatever we call them these days.

Smith is hopeless these days, and although they are no world-beaters, as we've seen in recent weeks, the likes of Gale and Sneyd are so much of an improvement on him it's ridiculous.

Once again I wonder, what is going through Sam Tomkins' mind at the moment?

Anyone remember when we had a "bog standard" centre called Darell Goulding ? Reasonable defender, decent pace and considered it his No.1 task to put his winger into open space, oh to find someone who can do the basics like that again, a George Carmont would be even better.

He needs to concentrate getting fit and hopefully regaining something like his former top draw displays.
If he ever decided to move on and if he regains his fitness then Wire would sign him in a heartbeat.

He's probably wondering why on earth did I chose this place when he probably had several options open to him.
He'd better watch out though because he looked a bit chunky last night so might end up being a "middle" but at least he'd get plenty of rest at our place.

Not all of them, no, but in my recollection they came away with a try on both their first two visits to our 20.

How do you think Gale / Sneyd would do in our team? Would they improve it or would they end up being dragged down due to lack of options, runners and support whilst playing off a very average pack?

I said months ago that Tomkins is on a hiding to nothing, he is going to be heavily marked because nobody else in the team offers any spark, everyone will then say Tomkins is finished, past it, lost his pace etc..

Hull actually showed how to run these choreographed plays effectively, they often had runners that took defenders out and created gaps, it was good to watch. They opened us up repeatedly with ease and we didn't have a clue how we should defend against it.
