| I thought that Hampshire had a good game vs Huddersfield, especially given the circumstances in which he was drafted into the team at the last minute. Surely we have to give him some game time at 6 off the back of that performance.
Incidentally, I think that the Williams/Hampshire pairing looked better at junior level when they played as a pair rather than splitting the halves. Maybe Hampshire, for all his obvious talents, doesn't fit well into the current first team structure?

The lad is only 20, there are other talented players of that age who aren't playing every week. Jamie Doran, Oliver Gildart & Connor Farrell to name but three. We only have 17 spaces available week in, and week out. The coaching staff obviously feel that Bowen is the better option at FB and Smith & Williams/Powell are better options are HB.
Rocky's time will come.'"
I agree he struggled against Saints but he absolutely tore Leigh apart at SO

Wanes comments that he wasn't initially getting picked against Huddersfield in the halves because he'd been poor at fullback in pre season frustrated me and is the type of comment that makes me worry about their relationship.
As you say he was outstanding in half a game against Leigh at stand off and it's all well and good saying 'it's only Leigh' but they're a really good side who were battering us in that game until Hampshire went in to 6.
Wane seems to have an issue with him IMO and Hampshires confidence will be effected eventually.

| My view is we simply need to stop messing around and get him in the team, even if it is at fullback for the time being.
There's no doubt we'll lose him if this keeps going.

| So Powell is now injured (along with Sutton and Charnley) - so I would play Hampshire in the halves and continue with Williams at hooker.
Instead though the WEP suggests (which obviously doesn't necessarily mean it will happen) that Williams will move back to the halves and Logan Tomkins will come back in.
In a team currently lacking in creativity and flair, I think we need as many potential game breakers as possible in the side. Logan isn't one (yet another steady Eddie) whereas we know Williams and Hampshire have the potential to do something different that can change things.

If you recall that game, like ourselves Leigh made plenty of changes in that second half, of course I may be wrong about that, but that was my impression at the time.
I don't put too much store in someone 'tearing apart' (in effect) Leigh reserves in a pre-season friendly.
Ask yourselves this. What does Shaun Wane have to gain by omitting a player who could help him win games, if he is as good as people seem to think?
My view FWIW, is that Hampshire will get his chances at Full Back. Shaun Wane has his reasons for not picking him at Stand Off. And he's pretty well qualified to decide who to play and who not to play there.

| Yes. Also, the team need to know where they stand. The talk early on was, for better or worse, they'll stick with Williams at 6, and give him time there to gell with Smith. Despite that, he's already been dumped in favour of Powell once. Should he now be dumped a second time in favour of Rocky? That hardly seems fair on the lad, who, after all, has shown signs of steady improvement this season.

But Wane said after the Hull game that Williams had done well as a bench 9 and would now be used in that position. Surely then, Hampshire has to be brought in at 6.......!
Wane needs to start thinking a bit more about some of the things he says to the media if he changes his mind yet again after what he said about Williams playing at 6 at the beginning of the season (he would be played at 6 for a considerable time but was then moved after just a few games) And I hope he has told Charnley not to take to heart the comments he made about Manfredi being able to do things he can't - and that he was just doing it to boost Manfredi's confidence rather than it be an implicit criticism of Josh.

No, he's from St. Helens but a very good player who fell out of favour with a couple of the Saints coaches.
I still think Hampshire will be offered the #1 position next season at Wigan. According to todays League Express he played at fullback for Workington yesterday.

| I'd take Hampshire at Saints in a heartbeat.
I'd certainly go after him if Walsh is leaving as there's not a huge difference in 6/7 roles these days.
I think he could learn a lot from Burns over a couple of seasons and then be the senior half back for years.
High quality player.

He wouldn't be the first pacey wigan standoff who couldnt get a game to end up at St Helens in the number 7 shirt

| If he went to Saints now do you think he would far a game ( assuming Walsh is fit and Burns isn't suspended)?
