There's more to the youngsters coming through than they are not good enough. Wigan have been outbid for quite a number to my knowledge.'"
Interesting point...however not sure its how all clubs look at things....Simon Moran at wire for example has demonstrated he is prepared to back the team out of his own pocket.... beyond the operating income of the club.
I know IL has done this too...to some extent...but his philosophy is very much centred around the principle that the club should be run as a business with the P&L account driving the decisions.
It's a sport, and whilst he is custodian of our great club I expect him to invest perosnally, or source backers to help out.. when needed.

You miss the point.
He bought the club..so he now owns the asset that is wigan rl.
We're talking about the operation of the club on a day to day / year on year basis. There are times when the owner / chairman has to invest out of his own pocket because the operating income won't always cover costs which need to be incurred .. be it to buy young players or talented coaching staff.

| This may have been raised already (so apologies if it has) but I think we should be asking if there is any concrete evidence Madge is tapping up our players for the Rabbitohs and has IFL got any commitment fromm Madge not to do so. Given IFL agreed to release Madge from his final year of his contract I think this would be the least we could expect.

surely this is against the spirit of the cap?
does it count on the cap?
or is this a massive loophole that is going to be exploited more and more by certain clubs to get ahead?

What evidence have you got that he's not doing this, or that Simon Moran is doing it any more than IL is?
It amazes me that because IL has a reputation for being a tough businessman, there's an assumption - and it can only be an assumption, because we haven't got access to his books - that he won't spend an extra quid or two when it's needed.

Transfer fees don't count on the cap. Only players wages count.

thats well out of order, cos i thought that there was another caveat to the sc that they could only spend a max of 50% of their income on wages now surely that income should be proper income not out of the chairman's back pocket? and (if my maths are correct, n i wasnt much good at that at school) he would have to put double in for them to be able to use that extra to pay for wages? either way thats not in the spirit of the cap, and prob should be at least looked at,
