Surely you can't really believe that the ubiquitous British Pork pie is 'quality'???
I have only ever tried one once before admittedly but as far as I can remember it was a cold hard lump of fatty minced pork (with added lumps of extra white fat) which had been shaped into a round mass before being encased in slimy jelly and some crumbly pastry before being served COLD to its unsuspecting victim....ie ME
Seriously.
These things should carry a government health warning.

| Mmmm, Yates Greer pies! My grandad was in charge of the factory in Leigh for a v.v.v. long time. He used to take me in at weekends when we were visiting for a treat to see the factory cat and get a tray of pies for a family gathering out of one of the giant fridges. A-mazing. If you cut me in half, there's just a massive YG pork pie in there. Although their pies aren't as nice as when my grandad was in charge.

The shop in Golborne is still open. I believe some of the staff used their redundancy money to keep some of the shops open. Something along those lines. I know this because I had a Pimbletts from the Golrborne store yesterday.

The store front is still the same - says Pimblets in massive red letters. But like I said, the store is still there selling the pies and they taste the same. Does it really matter if the company are trading under a different name since the last one went under? They are essentially the same pies.

| yes it does. regardless of his financial state, he owns that name, they couldnt use his name so they used the nickname which meant they boken not one law. and the recipe is the original one from years back, not the one that they was selling right upto ceasing trading

my mum used to make those little delights, at the original factory in leigh.
that is just an outlet for Yates and Greer, it is actually waterfields who make them now using the old yates and greer recipe.

| I'm only an adopted Wiganer, moving from Bolton in 2002. Although i've never had a bad pie in Wigan
I'm yet to find one that comes close to a meat and tatty from Wilson Pie shop, a small pie shop in Kearsley on the outskirts of Bolton. I always have a couple in the freezer at home incase i get withdrawal symtoms.
