In a way it is - the younger generation. The whole Warriors tag attracts youngsters, it differentiates us from the puffball team.

So your saying the youngsters who didn't know the WIgan RL era don't call the team 'Warriors'? That all the advertisements/posters etc don't attract the youngsters? Of course it does. Fact is, people who didn't know the Wigan RL era will only know us as Wigan Warriors. The name won't change and me and you could sit here til the bleeding cows came home debating whether it does or does not attract youngsters.

They could know the team as the "martians" but they didn't start watching them because they're called the "martians," they started watching them because they're their local RL team.

I never refer to my club as Warrors and I never have.
In conversation it's either Wigan Rugby, Wigan RL or just Wigan. In fact I have cringed in the past when being asked if Im going to watch the 'Warriors'.

Well the rioters would be idiots then. IIRC this was (and still may be) the former official name of Wigan RL.

How about the FA change Liverpool FC to something like Liverpool Lions and come back in ten years and ask their fans what they think about it!

It is, but imagine the uproar if we announce we are to have WIGAN FOOTBALL CLUB on our shirts. Everytime we're mentioned in the media it would be as Wigan FC. Latics fans would love it.

The youngsters wont stop supporting wigan just because we are not Warriors anymore! And if they are that idiotic to do so, they can go to the latics, theyl be back once they are in the third division playing Swindon on a wet wednesday night.

When I was Nine years old I went to Wembley with my Dad and Grandad to watch WIGAN RUGBY play Wakefield. Now Forty Eight years later I still go watching WIGAN RUGBY and have never joined in with chants containing Warriors or come to that matter ex Sent Ellins songs. All who want to go along with Warriors then fair enough I would not dream of criticising them, but to me I will always follow WIGAN RUGBY!
