Teams have hardly laid a finger on him in recent weeks anyroad and he's tough enough to deal with whatever comes his way.'"
He's not getting it because he's got even better and is avoiding a lot of it. If you watch there's a lot of swinging arms and stuff coming his way.
If I'm honest though I've seen our guys doing the same to brown, Myler etc. I think we need to sort something where if a big guy throws an arm at a little guy he gets punished properly. I do think Sam gets more than most though but it's only because he is so good and has the ball so much. I think the point is that this guy could be the basis for England actually winning something in the future and if he is injured badly by some pillock that can't beat him within the rules then this could be ended.

39110_1363272058.jpg Dropkick Murphy..we actually saw and heard a mass of bouncing and scarf and flag waving to Dale Cavese that drowned out anything we could muster.. It stopped us singing our own celebratory songs, it died out seconds later when we accepted we couldn't be heard over the Wigan lot
Celebrations muted from us, job done from them. Most fans who slag them off are jealous their own club's support is nowhere near that good
-
sally cinnamon..Why not discuss Wigan? It's a rugby league message board. Wigan are the most famous brand in rugby league
-
Tre Cool..Saints fans are hopeless unless it's a cup final or grand final. Wigan fans are so much more loyal and passionate
-
the flying biscuit..Wires havent been massively succesful over the years, but I've spoke to Brian Bevan And he spoke to me and i wouldnt swap that for Wigans History, ever
-
Ande..on the TV i could only hear the Wigan fans with about 10 to go
-
Saint94..Every team is in your feckin shadow, we all know

| I like that Wane has spoken out but the delivery of that comment puts him on the same level as Nathan Brown 2010.
Sam does get some bad treatment but most teams can't lay a finger on him. Most teams have come to accept that he is just the best player in super league, even in a poor game he can do something special, teams are too busy trying to defend against him to rough him up.

| Seems a bizarre comment to me. Not really been that bad this season at all, apart from the Whinos trying to house because they knew they couldn't beat us at rugby.
I really wish Wane would keep some things quiet - it's an area he could learn from Madge.

| I assume it's in reference to him being panned by Setaimata Sa and the disciplinary deeming "penalty sufficient". So not out the blue as such, just that 99.9% of people wouldn't have seen it as it was in France.

Yeah, remember when JJB tried to kick him in the face? Does everything look red and white through those glasses you wear?

| No need to whine in public like that. If he has issue take it up with cummins and not the media.

yeah - cummins. hes done such a good job so far hasnt he.
he's alienated most of the SL coaches exactly because he DOESNT listen and the link between the refs and the players appears to have fractured.
its a ploy that most SL coaches have used - either to defend their players, or to put thoughts in ref's ears regarding opposition tactics (our defense strategies comes to mind)
yes, in a perfect world we would be able to have a chat with the chief ref, but it aint a perfect world, and cummins is a joke
get russel smith to come back and run the refs game. is he still reffing in aus ??

I think he's put a bit of a target on Sam now; made him look a bit soft really.

| Why not have a no tackle rule for Tomkins, that way he does not need to milk the penalty when he gets the ball, it's just automatic the second he is tackled. Will save everyone time.

Youre slightly missing the point. Whilst I agree Sam does bend the rules slightly at times, Wane is talking about players trying to injure him which isnt the same thing. The Ablett tackle on him last season was disgraceful but Sa's in Montpellier was even worse. I'm pretty sure both were punished simply be penalties!
No one is asking for one rule for Sam and another for everyone else but he is definately being targeted. Whilst to an extent this is part of the game, all players deserve protection by the RFL when they are subject to opponents looking to injure them. No one can stop it before it happens but offending players need to be punished. This is not happening at the moment and thats what I think Wanes point is.

| I don't think he is being targeted any differently than the best players in other teams. All good players are targeted to stop them running riot. To say that the other players in the team will protect him is daft. By doing what? Surely they will get pulled up then for foul play.

Firstly its the lack of proper punishments that is SW's gripe.
Secondly get used to a coach that talks about players in the team protecting him. You've just appointed one!
