| I think It'll be easier if I name the players I wouldn't keep:
Coley
Hansen
Fielden
Bailey
Smith
Riddell?
Obviously adequate replacements would have to be found, regarding Riddell I'm unsure, he's shown signs so would perhaps give him benefit of doubt, as for the others above they can all go for me and thankfully some are.

| I would get rid of
Riddell
Smith
Coley
Fielden
Bailey
Roberts
That would open up so much cap space we could do loads with it.

They were the ones i missed off my 'to keep' list bar Roberts who i said it'd be a toss up between him and Phelps so i agree totally.
Riddell is improving but we've got 2 long term better bets in McIlorum and Leuluai.
Coley and Bailey are both steady eddies but there must be better players out there somewhere for the money we pay them.
Fielden is a given to go considering the wages he's on. I'd keep him at the club after his contract if he were willing to accept his worth which is about 60-80k a year and i doubt he'd take that.

| Just get rid of the coach and see what a new coach can do with them. A new coach has done wonders for Mathers.

| would persevere with riddell and see how he goes next year before we all jump to conclusions! after all, look how crap richards was in his first season in england and yet he is one of the first names on the team-sheet now such has been his improvement!
some players naturally take longer to settle in than others and i think riddell needs a bit longer, he is a long way from being what we all expected but seems to be enthusiastic and is gradually improving!

S Tomkins
O'Loughlin
Richards
J Tomkins
Leuleuai
Mossop
Ainscough
Gleeson
McIllurum
Carmont
Phelps
Hansen
In that order.....Rest could go for me with possibly the exception of Paleasina, and Prescott

Phelps is on a lower wage and has been better this season IMO.

I'm seeing some good signs from Roberts at the moment.
He looks to be more settled and is having a good imput into most games. His form this year as a whole has been far better then Richards was in his first season and as much as everybody wouldn't have a Richards style rise in form i'm sure Roberts will prove a long term good bet.
We've not got the option of releasing Roberts whereas we have with Phelps but i'd only do that with a cast iron guarantee his replacment would be better and i find that doubtful.

| I'd get rid of:
Smith, Fielden, Riddell and Pryce
I had been saying I'd get rid of Bailey at the end of this season but now Hock's gone and he's been doing that well this season that he should get another year IMO, unless it means foresaking a new prop.

Well the thread is in wishful thinking in if every play was OOC but your right that in the real world we cannot get rid of Roberts and we can with Phelps. I agree that Roberts has improved but I just wish he was a little quicker. Phelps is one of the most underated players in the league IMO, he puts his body on the line alot and has the skills to go with his passion. I like the guy but cannot see a long term future for him at Wigan with the likes of Ainscough just below him and if we have a chance of signing Briscoe then I would rather have him.
I think Phelps has been a great example that maybe experienced aussies are not the way to go. I hate it how everyone goes on about us siging over aged overseas players all the time when most of our overseas players are younger than 26 and a few are still 28 with the oldest being Carmont who is 30 being our very oldest player and in contrast we have had 13 players play in our team out of our academy this season and last.

Id probably go with that actually........depending on Bailey's wedge...before we could do with out him, but now we need some experience in the back row, and therefore bails on a decently paid 12 month contract wouldnt be a bad option...plus the fact he'd be more likely to perform like he has recently next year as well as he'd be chasing another contract. If we can get bails on a decent contract....and for that id say less than 80k-100k per year, which i expect he is massively over at the moment, id say give him another year
But as you said, if its a straight choice between bails and a WC half back or Prop, then bailey would have to go IMO. Hopefully we'll get lucky and the rumours of the fat man being homesick will be true, and we can bring someone class in on his significant wedge......otherwise with Leuleui and Mcillurum both vastly better hookers, I see him being a massive waste of a chunk of the salary cap, and another white elephant like fielden who because of his wage, whoever the coach is next season will not feel he can justify dropping him!

| Hock and Smith are out of the club now and their salaries are available to bring in players.
We had better be careful who we release as IL's record on signings ain't that great. Gleeson being the first real quality player he's brought in.
If Gleeson is the first of many then fine but with the overseas quota being cut for 2011 we will have to be careful who we keep and who departs.
