| Quote: Egg Chasing "Pretty much my thoughts.
Would I have loved Craig Bellamy or Ivan Cleary? Of course I would, but I can see why the club have chosen him when you consider his CV.
Briers has worked with him before (has he chosen his own staff??????) so they will know how one another works, as will SOL and from what I have heard about Peet from numerous people there will be nobody getting an easy ride.
Let's give the guy a chance before we slag him (and of course the club) off shall we? Let's try something new for a change.'"
Spot on.
Plus the scenes when Lee Briers lifts the SL trophy with Wigan against Wire will be biblical.

| Quote: Wigan6/Leeds1 Andy "So he was ready three years ago then? Why didn't he get the gig when Wane left? As I have to keep saying, I believe it's time for someone from outside the club to come in and shake things up - we look stale as a club and promoting from within doesn't look the right appointment given where we are.'"
Was he even at the club then?
Sounds very much like a "but but but but but" approach.
Who would you have appointed that would "shake things up" and what makes you think Peet won't now he has the main job?

| He signed for Sale in August 2018 and left when Wane did I believe. They clearly wanted Shaun Edwards above anyone and I do wonder had they known how things would pan out, if they’d have just given Peet the job then. We’ll never know now and that will sadly mean I’ll wake up in cold sweats for many months now, after having this recurring nightmare of Adrian Lam coming out after games we’d scored 6 points in saying we’d played well and how we thrown more shape than anyone at teams.

| The new coaching set up tells you everything you need to know about Adrian Lam.
It’s a line up to re-instate a winning culture and a no nonsense approach to getting the job done.
I think the addition of Briers is a smart one, he himself can learn a lot from the culture that Peet brings…supported by Wane.
Only one thing missing…..a new half back that can ignite our attacking play that quite frankly has been non existent for far too long.

| A few years ago I was sat just in front of Lee Briers at a Wigan v Wire academy game at Orrell. Briers was the Wire academy coach at the time. Wigan were winning quite comfortably and Wire scored a try. As the goalkick was being taken Briers was barking orders down the radio to his on pitch assistant.
It went something like this. "Play one, alpha, play two prop carry the ball to right hand post. Play three wide ball out to the left. Play four chip kick for winger, tell centre to be up in support"
And that's exactly what happened Wire went the length of the field and scored a superb try.
I turned around and said "Great call that Lee" He laughed and said "it is when it works".

Unfortunately this is what is wrong with a lot of the game today. Players are told what plays to run and nobody seems to just play what is in front of them and react to the situation. Obviously structure is needed but the player who reacts to what he sees is worth his weight in gold.

Briers was a legend as a Wire player but we had a conveyor belt of half backs play under him and we still looked clueless in the opposition 20.
Don't expect Smith to turn into Alfie Langer by virtue of Briers being onboard.

We’d be happy with a run a round!

| Some Wigan fans would consider Bernhard Langer to be an improvement.

| I like the new role for SW.
I’ve stated previously we’ve needed to strengthen our management across the entire club and SW is probably the perfect guy to perform the new role which will go some way in resolving some long standing issues across all aspects of management.
I thought Peet presented himself really well at the press conference and in the Wigan tv interview.
Particularly liked his comments on bringing the club, players and fans together. This has been sorely lacking in recent years ( predating Lam) and for me personally has been a major part of the enjoyment draining away on match days. Hopefully Peet will bring a more open approach from the club to fans.
Peet mentioning freedom as part of his vision is also encouraging.
Not sure about Briers but I’ve always liked a maverick so hopefully his mixture of styles with Peet and SOL could be a good combination.
Perhaps the most pleasing part of the announcements for me is the dropping of attacking and defence coaching roles.
I never understood how you can coach defence without thinking of attack and vice versa.
I still don’t think that the squad is good enough or has the right balance but more than happy to be proven wrong.

| Nice to have some fresh ideas on board but ultimately any attacking coach will only thrive if the whole side starts to find an intensity to it’s play. We have an ability to hang in there in defence but everything else is just so slow. Our line speed in defence is ok, our kick chase is ok and no more, the intensity at which players run the ball is average and our passing is unbelievably sluggish. We have nobody willing to put any energy in to running off the ball, either as a dummy runner or by supporting the ball carrier and so on. The best attack coach in the world won’t get the improvements out of us unless Peet can get players bouncing, full of energy and fighting for every single inch, as the St Helens players do. If he can do that and then Briers can bring some smarts to the attack, it’s happy days and we’ll start to pick up.

So true - the last halfback we had who could see what was in front of him and adapt was Blake Green.

Peet's only been away from the club for about a year over the last 13 so it wouldn't have been that difficult.
Hopefully the club considered Ciraldo at Penrith but I doubt it.
