Amazing how people see different things isn't it?
If MM had thrown that elbow/forearm, you would probably have been calling for the death sentence.

| Quote: Northampton_Saint "FWIW I thought that Lance's elbow and the first Flower punch were both sinbins - a red either way would have been harsh in the extreme and you see worse result in just penalties every week. But the follow-up cheap shot effectively wiped both out. And even if the ref had clearly seen Lance's smash and wanted to act on it, he could hardly have sinbinned him while he was spark out and in obvious considerable distress and after what had just happened. Overall he got it about right. Lance was a very silly boy for retaliating in the first place (rule #1 - never retaliate to provocation as you almost always come off worse) but thankfully for us Flower was much, much sillier.'"
I don't get it. Why could the ref not sin bin/send off Lance whilst he was lying on the ground surrounded by the remnants of his glass jaw?
I seem to have missed the "sympathy" rule in RL which negates the possibility of a player being sent off whilst he is in obvious discomfort. Coaches up and down the land will now be training their players to spark someone out, and then lie on the grass in "Obvious & considerable distress", safe in the knowledge that the ref cannot possibly sanction you for your actions.
Don't look in the mirror this morning mate, you are not doing your awesomeness justice today.

I'll put it in nice simple terms for you then with an analogy (I sometimes forget I'm talking to pies here so forgive me if I've not dumbed down enough previously ) - let's say I put a brick through your window, and in retaliation you smash my car up, and then in retaliation for that I shoot you dead in the street. Would you expect the police to prosecute either of us for criminal damage, or do you think they might forget all that and just concern themselves with the murder instead? The same thing applied on Saturday. Do you see? I can put on a puppet show to demonstrate instead if it'll make it clearer so long as you give me a few weeks to buy the stuff on eBay?

We did try to put it outside your stadium but it turns out that somehow you don't seem to actually have one... Did you lose it somewhere? Come on, I'll help you to try and find it. Now, try and remember where you had it last...

What a lovely, simple analogy that explains the situation with perfect clarity.
Back to the mirrors son, you seem to have lost yourself along the way.

| Back to Bentham, I thought he had a decent game. Thought he got most decisions right and, most importantly, he managed to keep a lid on things after Flower's dismissal. Think both sides and - dare I say it - both coaches deserve some credit for the latter too.

| No matter what happens referees can't win with any decisions. At the moment though Bentham seems to be the best of a bad bunch.
He did well to control things on Saturday and there are several referees at the moment who would have lost control.
I've been a season ticket holder at Wigan for 40 years and was disgusted at Flower for the second shot on his opponent. I for one wouldn't care if he never played for us again. Rugby is tough enough without that.

Why don,t you just chain up the real Ben Flower to that big metal rugby ball in tesco car park, it would be cheaper. Bentham had a fairly decent game compared to the Silverwood Standard.

However, a number of electrons were mildly inconvenienced.

Bloody hell mate.
That's not much of a comparison.
I saw Thierry Alibert have a few decent games if we're applying the Silverwood Standard.

| Lance pleads guilty and gets a match which really should have been a red on the day. Any player who is banned should have had a red and the system is a cop out. I knew this when watching in the ground. Sounds harsh to some but lance should have been carded even If on a stretcher. He got this wrong but think he could have had some help.

| agreed. there was one replay at the ground which clearly showed the forearm smash. the game should have been 12 v 12.
For such important decisions it is imperative that a VR is used.
None of this is any kind of defence of flower, just that both players should have been carded

I think he got 78 minutes actually! and as their key play maker that was enough
