Think he's possibly saying that because he doesn't particularly want to recall Logan but doesn't want to speak negatively about him either. Plus IMO Logan is probably better continuing his run of games at the same club rather than swapping in, then out again. McIlorum will be back for the games that matter anyway. As for him eyeing up the Salford job I'm fairly sure he would have his sights set higher than that if he left Wigan

| I think Wane has total faith in Williams tbh. The kid had looked a little jaded this past couple of weeks but he's tough and Wane likes that. I've read a few negative posts about his recent displays but we have to cut him some slack. He's got a lot of talent and a good attitude but it's very early days and he's bound to make mistakes. He strikes me as the sort of lad that will work really hard to put them right and go on to prosper in time just like guys like Micky Mac and Lockers. They both took a number of seasons to really show just how good they were.

| What are people's thoughts on Doran? I thought he showed some good touches and tried to put himself about at a difficult time in the match. He certainly has the build of a traditional hooker but looked a little out of condition to me. Certainly worth another run off the bench.

| Really don't think playing Williams for long minutes with wright or doran on the bench is the answer whilst McIlorum is out. Don't understand why we're not looking to recall Logan, I don't buy this "we promised Salford" line, he's our player and we have long term injuries to 2 of our spine.

| Williams just looks a tired player. At the start of the year he looked sharp and could cause problems from dummy half but at the moment he's struggling. It's also asking a lot of a 19 year old halfback to be playing a run of games as first choice hooker.
As for Doran, he was quick around the ruck and his passing was accurate. Unfortunately in defence he wasn't up to scratch. Was knocked around a lot and Saints made good ground by running at him. I don't really think he's a realistic option unless he can muscle up a lot more defensively.

Exactly. Forget salfords or Logan's needs.

Williams not only looks a tired player who gives 100% but also a player who is being driven into the ground by a coach who seems to be intent on proving that he will not admit that he made a bad decision in letting Logan Tomkins
go to Salford on a season loan.
Williams when playing in the Academy during the last couple of years has been outstanding when playing with Hampshire as an outstanding halfback partnership (of the old school type) who delighted the fans with there free flowing rugby.
As I have said before Wane almost wants to play with halfbacks who are tight to the ruck to get the forwards rolling and then to use plan A when well in the opponents half.
Tell me when was the last time you saw two Wigan halfbacks do the run a round, you never see them run more that two or three yards before they bring a forward in.
But my argument can be shot down in flames when you look at the success Wane has had during the last couple f years.
But I will stick by my original comment Wane is letting Williams get hammered.

I think that's Wane being diplomatic.
I read those comments as "Logan isn't markedly better than Doran/Wright/Williams so we don't want him back".

Hard to argue with any of that.

I'd agree with all that.

Williams does look tired but he has played too many games really. Powell is in front of Williams for me at the moment at halfback though so it will do Williams no harm getting games at hooker. They are both way in front of Hampshire for me who has too many deficiencies in his game for SL level.

The real difference is that Powell is older and more experienced. He hasn't had the pressure that we are heaping on the young lads. Ideally we need to get enough older bodies back to take the youngsters out of the firing line and bring them back for the odd cameo with a view to helping them gain confidence at this level. None of the debutantes have let us down, give them a moment of glory but do not rely on them.
