| Quote Dave26="Dave26"I didn't say he's playing crap, I don't think he is, but surely you agree he isn't the player he once was? I don't think there is much point playing the likes of Peacock constantly and hoping somehow that something will change and we'll start winning. This is a chance to blood the likes of Mossop and build an England squad that could grow into something much more effective than what we have now, wishful thinking with McNamara in charge I know. Of course you still need your experienced players in there, but something has to change in the national set up, playing the likes of Peacock until they retire isn't very forward-thinking.'" not sure if you read this thread but I actually said the same. No point in playing the old guard as we will get flogged either way so blood the future.
But peacock coming back from a full knee reconstruction has made 137 meters a game and 34 tackles a game.
Which shats over pretty much all SL props apart from Graham. all of yours included.
Hard to not pick him really.

That's the problem, we need a national coach with some balls and a plan, I don't think McNamara has either.

What's the plan? To not pick the biggest meter makers and highest tacklers?
Don't get me wrong I wanna see the kids blooded to build for the future.

No sorry, I meant a plan for the future. Something to aim towards, an actual team rather than a collection of players who don't seem too interested.

On one good game?
The stats for that game are impressive, granted. But, over the course of the season they're not.
Average metres per carry -
Peacock - 6.38
Coley - 6.87
Prescott - 7.01
Graham - 7.15
Mossop - 7.31
So, if you want a prop to make metres this season, on the above evidence - don't pick Peacock.

Except he hasn't. He's made 113 metres a game and 28 tackles. Every team seems to have a workhorse forward. Just because they are the best statistically doesn't mean they are the best player. Jeff Lima is the workhorse at Wigan and statistically the best prop but Lee Mossop is the one who makes the biggest difference for the team. Paul Wood at Warrington is the best prop statistically at Wire but I'd say Garreth Carvell is the one who makes the difference.
It's about balancing the type of player you have and if Graham is in the side I don't see why another workhorse prop is needed in the 17. He'd be useful as back up though.

Sorry your right re the meters, but you didn't count marker tackles so it is 34.
But his 113 is still better than pretty much all apart from Graham and lynch

Marker tackles are included in the number of tackles made if I'm not mistaken. I still maintain that if England need a workhorse then Graham and Lynch would be ahead of Peacock. He just doesn't seem to make that impact.
His metres are impressive, but if you had Graham and Peacock in the same team they probably wouldn't be making the same number of metres and carries because the workload would be shared.
If you look at someone like Carvell, just because he doesn't average as many metres per game doesn't mean he isn't as good. He's not used in that sort of role but it doesn't mean he isn't capable, it just means he's best playing in a different sort of way.
England have lots of props who can run round and make over 100 metres and over 30 tackles if they have to (Lee Mossop can do that if need be) but what the team needs is a dominant forward who can cause problems. So far I'd say Carvell looks a better bet than Peacock, as do a few other forwards.

Yeah you make fair points. My opinion is as was earlier in the thread mossop looks the business I would like to see him given a go. No point for me keeping going with Moz and JP! Graham, Ellis, lockers, roby, sinfield maybe hock can be the senior heads
