| Quote: bazzert "I take a punt on Dave Furner, he loved his time at wigan and always spoke well and also had influence in the short time he was with us he quickly became one of the pros who everyone looked up to.
I spoke to him many times when he was in the UK and he i think his passion and desire to win would work great at Wigan.
And just recently his raiders side exposed the Broncos to there worst ever defeat.
Whether we could get him away from his own town Canberra is another question.'"
Not a chance imo but a nice idea.
I think most people seem agreed now that McGuire looks the best bet due to his massive rating down under and the fact that he's been working at a great club in Melbourne under a great coach. They've brought through and made full use of their juniors and thats what we need to do here.
I'd like to see McGuire appointed with a British asisstant at the side of him. I like how the relationship between Brown and Paul Anderson has worked at Huddersfield and that little bit of superleague know how from a British coach could help McGuire to settle in.

Based on playing signings like Tim Smith, Riddell and Roberts.
These lads aren't top of the range players who'll command the top whack money but they were all players with half decent reps in the NRL.
Leeds signed Bederus- We signed Riddell
If theres a world class coach wanting a forunte or an up and coming coach wanting half that money but who the fans would still be happy enough with i feel he'd go for the second option.

I understand what you mean, but is this down to being "cheap" or down to cap space?
Smith was different, with Barrett suddenly announcing his leaving we needed a 6 asap imo.
IMO we've got all the singings we've needed from IL bar a prop.
I'd like to see another coach in if we are keeping the same team though. I can't see us winning anything with this squad, something needs to change and it clearly isn't going to be playing staff.

Abit of both.
We didn't really need Roberts and of Lenagan had added his money to the money spent on Riddell he could have aimed higher imo.
I suppose he's trying to build a squad and thats fair enough but you do get the feeling we're a top quality player or 2 short of having a 17 good enough to compete for honours.
Another thing that worries me is Lenagan saying we don't have any room to sign anybody for next year unless we loaned 3 or 4 players out. Whats happening with Hock and Smiths money then? That surely can't have all gone on upgrading a couple of youngsters deals!
I just hope he's attempting to put abit of a smokescreen up and the prop we need so much will be delivered.

| I think a trio of Lam as Coach Wane as assistant and Rads in there aswell would work brilliant. New ideas and sheer winning mentality of Lam, discipline and importance of the badge from Wane and Rads on the outer as a mentor to the young lads coming through. Obviously theres so much more involved but i think it would work. Lam owes nobody in the squad a dot and everyone would be on a clean slate, Fielden and Feka would have no choice but shape up.

Thats neraly right.
I think Lam as head coach, Wane as assistant John Pendlebury as reserves caoch with Rads taking the u 18's.
Add to this Steve Hampson as fitness conditioner and we have what i feel would be a winning combination.

| Isn't Lam's desire to be considered due purely to the fact he'll be sacked from the Roosters before long. How was his team's performance in their junior league? Does he coach in the Toyota Cup?
McGuire should be the man or type of coach we are looking for. Working in a club that's winning things, making good signings and developing their own talent. Does that apply to Lam? Don't think so!
I don't think Wigan should even be thinking about Lam either as head coach or asst.

Why? Is it because they have all got great CV's or because they are all Wigan lads or have played for Wigan?
We can recruit from outside the Parish, we are fast becoming the Newcastle of rugby, if they dont speak with a wigan accent there no good i tell tha!

| It is very hard to critique any assistant or inexperienced coach and we have to go on the judgement of IFL when he holds talks with these people.
Look at the likes of Mike Gregory or Ian Millward at Saint neither had glowing CV's prior to joining Wigan and Saints Mike Gregory was close to really turning this club around and Millward was a great success at Saints.
It has to be the right type of person to fit the Wigan club and vice versa its not just about a glittering track record, see Millward at Wigan.
I have never felt Noble is the right type of person for Wigan and that is why he has struggled.
Ultimately we have to rely on the judgement of IFL in this case and to be fair it is not often a person who is not a good judge of character does so well in the business world.
Reappointing Noble was his biggest error to date for the 2009 season in my opinion especially when a coach like Brown was available, hindsight is a wonderful thing but lets hope if the right man is available for 2010, IFL does not make the same mistake again.
