Snow day for me.

Be grateful, my lass's boss has been told she HAS to open up on pain of a disciplinary.

One of our managers has to go in tomorrow to make the call about opening then from site, which is a pain, but i live furthest away, so it wont be me

Get real.

There's been snow on the ground for over 3 weeks where I live. There's a layer of 7-8"" in my back garden right now, with snow still falling, in fact it's been snowing since 6pm last night, with around 4-5" overnight. There was a slight thaw last week but we've now got weeks of snow and ice compacted into solid white layers. I can't remember conditions like this; certainly not in the last 25 years.

The authorities have done everything they can. Gritters can only do so much, and grit is only effective for so long - in persistent snow you need a fresh spreading every few hours.

These conditions are rare. The gritters have been out almost round the clock in the last 24 hours, and regularly over the last few weeks. Councils can't stock supplies or equipment to cope with Arctic conditions - such extreme weather only happens every 20 years and is therefore far to costly to justify. Gritters also have to focus on main routes so yes, some residential areas won't get gritted.

Sometimes we need to just grin and bear it, and get on as best we can. You won't die without bread for a day or two.

I think I'll have a nice hot toddy.



Seriously it's not good for us who are retired.
We're not getting an extra day off because of the snow.

Nah they call it climate change now, funny that.

When Cumbria was under water a month ago all the open toe, sandal wearing, yogurt knitting lefties were out in force telling us it all our fault what with our big nasty 4x4's and flying around the world on our big nasty planes. Now were hitting record low tempretures around the globe theres more chance of finding Lord Lucan than one of these useful idiots to come on the news.

I'm sure its fun for them too....

Jan 1963 just started work and had to walk from Goose Green to Higher Ince canal was frozen solid for 8 weeks used to play on the scotchmans flash would be a foot thick, do you think we will get a friendly as this weather is here untill the end of Jan.

601 - Service will operate Wigan to Ashton excluding Old Rd and operating to and from Wigan North Western Station.
658 - Service will operate from Wigan to Platt Bridge King William.

Ahhh,I remember it well...........brazier's on the pitch overnight to keep the frost out, straw round the outside of the touchline next to the 'ringside' seats,.........the good old days of winter rugby, how we all miss it !!!!!!!!!
