Our players are just not as good in any department and every season we seem to be slipping further and further behind.'"
Honestly mate
Give it up. It’s getting boring now.
Top throbber.

So what should be 'done' to raise the standard? Easy to say, tougher to do.
At the end of the day, we're not entitled to have the best league in our country. We're just like any other European football league bar English or Spanish - it can be enjoyable with good players but as soon as England or Spain come calling - the best players will go. We're probably quite lucky that Australia is the other side of the world which means despite it's obvious appeal, it's such a huge decision to make to move.

| In fairness Saints had a few missing and played a few not fully fit they gave it a good go and if they had taken their chances between 50 and 65 minutes probably would have won the game.
We all know SL is below NRL and probably always will be but all this ' nrl side taking it like a pre season game' blah blah really hacks me off. Roosters were full on tonight if they were not they would have been stuffed.

As always, it really does come down to the basics of the game imo.
Saints certainly had there chances created by their own hard work but were often found wanting with the final ball.
That’s not to say that Roosters didn’t make some basic mistakes too but they looked well organised, very fit and well drilled for the most part.
Maybe somebody more experienced at full back may of helped Saints, poor Welsby made a number of errors.

| Just back from the game ,i thought we gave it 110% and with a bit more composure might have won, would coote and percival made a difference ???? Possibly but who knows .....one thing that came from tonight for me was that if sean wane can get england/gb fired up then the ashes and world cup are there for the taking , in 2 years time a pack of thompson, clarke, walmsley, bateman, philbin and smithies has nothing to fear from an aussie six

I didnt want you to win, I had Sydney by 10+, I was gutted when ref gave that penalty end of the game that led to walmsley try.
But
Good effort
Think both teams will consider their performance as no better than maybe 7/10 but performing at those levels Roosters just had that bit of extra class.
Pack stood up well (I'm guessing Roby was either still not 100%, undercooked which would be understandable, or it could be that hes just on the Wane).
Saints give it a good go and fair play to them even with the 3 missing. Roosters will point to being a but rusty and obviously missing a couple of players themselves.
As for the Wane comment, seems like Woolf had then up for it and gave them thebunsteuction to have a Belt at them. That's certainly ly something Wane will want from his players.

Please explain how we can raise the standard of our game when since the mid nighties when Rugby Union sold it's soul and went professional, we can no longer attract the star players from that code or even sign the best players from Australia at their peak because they if they come here, they will not be considered for International selection.
Our game will never compete with the Australian game now, both on the playing side, especially at International level and more so where finance is concerned unless Sky give our game a contract like they have given to Rugby Union.
The codes have turn full circle and how long will it be before it reverts to being a part time sport again?

I think roby is in the same boat as o'loughlin.....they will both get wheeled out for big games , both been great players but as they say time and tide wait for no man

We won our 4th World title (a then record) and made the cup final. Nobody talked about our injuries and games when we were missing 6 and 7 players. It's a crisis for every other club, but we should just take it.
ANYWAY..........Have you won back2back titles since 2017?

| From what I saw watching in a busy pub, I thought Saints' pack stood up to the Roosters where I doubt other SL sides would have. They had their half-chances to score, but they couldn't take them. I thought a competitive game and a creditable effort.

| Generally fair comments from Wigginers
A couple of points. Agree with jukesays on performance and it was 7/10 both teams but still a great watch.
The second. Saints / Wigan rivalries always generate emotional responses as well but ai think our game badly needs a boost. I went against my loyalties last year and supported wigan because the Aussies are getting in danger of being 80s esque ahead of us and though arrogant have more than earned that right. The game needs a stronger national profile. Hard to see if you live in St Helens or Wigan as our setups are so strong which makes seeing the wider picture more difficult.
Final point. Yeo thats three. Ive always seen a respect between Wigan/Saints fitting of two great rugby towns. It may be the proximity and the fact lots of Saints and Wigan fans may work together, in relationships etc but a pity another town starting with W is pretty classless in my opinion.
