| Quote tank123="tank123"l was there travelled a lo further than you. vexed just as you but unlike you I watched the game to make my opinion you made yours on the way to the game. '"
No I didn't. My language may reflect my journey to and from the game but if you go over to Mikes forum you can if you look see a post from me about the 19 where I said his debut would be interesting to watch. I watched it and wasn't impressed and posted my views.
Quote tank123 He was ok got better in defence as the game got on. Unfortunate that he had to play this week obviously needs a month at the scorpions. If you think he was poor and clueless then what did you make of Smith Green Richards Tierney and atleast another 4 I could mention who were awful and some of these have played over 100 games. Powell did ok in a poor game and was better than half the team. Errors by the players I mentioned cost us.'"
Did you read what I posted at all? My comments were twofold. Basically he didn't look like he knew what he was doing and physically he doesn't look the part. The fact others had bad games is a complete straw man argument if ever there was one.
My comments were about Powell. If you want to discuss who else was rubbish, fire away but that doesn't alter one iota how Powell went.

| We all read your post. Even not looking the part bit. But its obvious you are desperate for him to fail. You might not though but your coming over like that.

| He bumped off several players thus his strength can't be too bad.
It isn't his first game in a new team. It's his first in a new sport and he went well. As mentioned, several established RUGBY LEAGUE players did worse.
Wouldn't expect any less from you though DaveO. Are we blaming Wane, IFL or Sam Tomkins for the defeat?

If I "might not" why post it? The idea I am desperate for anyone in a Wigan shirt to fail is quite an insulting comment. WTF would I want that? His debut tonight didn't do anything to persuade me it was a wise move to sign him but if I am proved wrong and he turns out as good as a Pongia, Smith or any other older RL prop that has done well for us I really won't care if I have been proved wrong. In fact I'd be quite pleased. Unlike a lot of people I don't care if things like that happen.
Tonight he wasn't much cop. That is my opinion. We are going to have to invest a lot of effort in him IMO and I can't see why we are. Time better spent with Crosby and Spencer etc IMO.

| I didn't expect him to do any better than he did as he only joined the club 1st June. He could have done an awful lot worse.
Plenty others out there did far worse than Powell although they played Monday and looked like they couldn't put one front in front of the other.
Monday/Friday turnaround is stupid.
Hudds got beat at HKR when having to do that.
We lost tonight against a poor Cas side who were still a lot better then we were.
Any decent team out there against us would have been 20+ or more up by half time.
Mentioned on another thread that the Monday/Friday turnaround was too much for Bentham. He was good last Monday, tonight he was off the pace of a very slow game.

Oh come off it. He didn't "go well" at all. And "as mentioned" the fact the rest of the team didn't perform has got nothing to do with how [uhe[/u performed as an individual. How they performed is as I said a straw man argument.

| He looked like a guy that'd never played a top flight game of Rugby League before!...
Oh wait! Well in that case he definitely got better as the game went on. Was thrown in at the deep end, goalline defence was a bit sluggish, think there's a lot of potential in him though. I have high hopes for him in time!

| [i Quote DaveOQuote DaveO="DaveO"Well I have just got back and I ain't in the best of moods after having to turn around and go back almost to the DW because bloody slip road at the A49 was shut so I can back via Orrell. That is after having to work today so my journey as I went home to pick up my son for the game was Runcorn-Chester-Wigan-Orrell-Chester'" .[/i
This is the only bit of your post I wouldn't have predicted. Well done
Quote DaveO[iHe looked clueless. Now some might say he's new to the team but players like Talyor don't look clueless when they join a new team. They know how to play RL. Powell has a lot to learn and God knows where he is going to learn it because the first team isn't the right place.[/i'"
He didn't look clueless, he looked like someone playing a new sport who had been pitched in earlier than he should have been in a depleted and tired side who were being outplayed across the park. He went about as well as could be expected, in fact slightly better.
Quote DaveO[iPhysically? He doesn't look like an RL player. His muscle definition is just not what you expect to see and he looked pretty slow and pretty ponderous to me.[/i'"
This is rubbish. Powell is in good nick physically. He ran strongly and hasn't had the benefit of a tailored programme from Bitcon like everyone else. What do you mean he doesn't look like an RL player? What does one look like? Andy Gregory? Karl Pryce? Am so bored of this fallacy that all Rugby Union players are ponderous, fat and unfit.
Quote DaveO[iThat's it really, nothing more to say because that was all there was to his contribution.'" [/i'"
I wish it was all you had to say but I'm confident it won't be. Compare that debut to Quinnell and Tuigamala's for instance and he was some distance ahead in terms of contribution and condition and they turned out OK as rugby league players.

| I thought he did alright. I was expecting him to be quite slow at the ptb, but that was quite the contary, one memorable one was towards the end of the match was a run approx 10 metres away from their line and the quick ptb he managed. Unfortunately bugger all came from it. I was low down on the Billy Boston stand so cant really comment on the space between defenders as it certainly wasn't the best view for that. But overall I dont think anyone could complain about it.

Well go on then oh great one. Tell me where he went wrong. I'll give you being out of position a few times in defence as a starter for 10. I'll then counter it by saying that on a few occasions we'd have turned the ball over if it wasn't for the fact he followed the ball due to his RU background and was able to pick it up.

| How anyone can possibly criticise that performance for his first game in rugby league is beyond me. How is Dave-O even a mod on here? If he's not a troll then he's definitely an embarrassment to Wigan fans.

DaveO speaks for all Wigan fans, we are just too stupid to realise he is right.
